Junior Network Specialist

Nickel City Communications Ltd. is a one stop shop for corporate and business technology. Over the past 10+ years we have expanded throughout Northern Ontario and service a wide variety of customers. We provide cabling infrastructure, data networks, servers, telecommunications/PBX telephony both on premise and cloud, and various other technology related services. Nickel City Communications can do it all and we work directly with the leading manufacturers throughout the tech industry.

We are currently looking for a junior network specialist to join our team. This job does not involve sitting at a desk for 40 hours a week. You will be able to visit customer sites, perform on site as well as off-site work and be part of the entire Nickel City Communications portfolio.
- Maintain, troubleshoot and administer local/wide area networks, computer workstations and peripheral equipment.
- Evaluate and install various computer hardware, networking software and operating system software.
- Provide problem-solving services to the end users.
- Perform data backups and disaster recovery operations.
- Implement network traffic and security monitoring software, and optimize performance.
- Design, install and program a complete data network including routers, switches, servers, wifi and workstations.
- You will also have access to perform other tasks within the NCC portfolio such as working with on-premise and hosted telephone systems, cables installs and cleanups, and project management.
- You will also be able to get trained on installing data infrastructure and have hand on experience installing various data cables.

**Skills and qualifications**:

- 1+ years of experience providing end-user support for network and data infrastructure.
- Strong technical knowledge in the following:

- Data switches, routers and firewalls.
- Wireless Access Points.
- Microsoft Windows and other PC related products.
- Virus Security.
- Various servers.
- Computer troubleshooting.
- Having technical knowledge regarding the rest of the NCC portfolio will be a definite asset.
- Strong documentation skills, excellent verbal and written communication both internally and with the end users.
- Must have the ability to multi task and maintain strong organization skills.
- Ability to prioritize workload and adapt to dealing with multiple clients in any given day.
- Must have a valid driver license. Proof of personal auto insurance is also required for access to company vehicles.
- Must be willing to travel throughout Northern Ontario. (Company vehicle would be provided for travel)
- Must be able to pass various police and security checks.
- Must be fluent in written and spoken English.

**Salary**: $20.00-$28.00 per hour

(Having active/current Cisco and Meraki Certifications is a major plus)
