- The Cancer Imaging Program manages quality initiatives and operations in multiple areas of patient care - often in emerging and rapidly evolving areas of imaging and treatments. In addition to targeted quality initiatives in cancer imaging, the scope of the Cancer Imaging Program includes independent specialized services program areas for: interventional oncology procedures, used for mínimally-invasive focal tumour ablation treatment(s) and for oncology-related spinal augmentation; the neuroendocrine tumours (NETs) program, including specialized radionuclide treatments and companion diagnostics; management of radiology quality assurance for the Ontario Lung Screening Program; and, oversight for all aspects of provincial PET scanning, with a mandate to support patient access and the evidence-based introduction of new indications for all ages and diseases (ie, not limited to oncology), quality oversight, and system-level planning.
- Although related by the use of imaging and related technologies, each of these program areas address different elements of patient care, with independent operational needs (e.g., contracts, performance management), issues and pressures, and advisory groups and stakeholders; i.e., they function as independent specialized services programs under the umbrella of the Cancer Imaging Program.
