**Compensation**:Expected to be $17.30/hour for 35-40 hours per week. _*Subject to change based on funding availability. _

**Position Details**:
The Animal Care Technician will perform a variety of tasks, including post-mortem extraction of eggs, caring for incubating eggs and hatchlings, data management, feeding turtles, cleaning tanks, general facility cleaning and grounds maintenance, and releasing turtles to their ancestral wetlands. This role is directly related to the conservation of Ontario’s native turtle species. The successful applicant will be able to work and take initiative in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple tasks at once to ensure a high level of animal care, and maintain a positive attitude. This position may also involve local outdoor/field work. The work schedule rotates and will include evenings, weekends and holidays as we are a hospital that operates 7 days/week.

**Qualifications**:

- Applicants must meet the eligibility requirements for Canada Summer Jobs.
- Ability to follow technical and Health and Safety protocols to perform post-mortem egg extractions safely and efficiently.
- Ability to perform physical tasks such as general labour, lifting tanks and large turtles (up to 40lbs), building and moving shelves, general building & outdoor maintenance, and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Have excellent attention to detail to input accurate, detailed data into our records.
- Have a strong interest in conservation biology and Ontario wildlife.
- Previous experience with dissection, animal/turtle physiology, and identification and handling of reptiles is an asset.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license to participate in turtle releases within a reasonable distance from OTCC.
- Valid First Aid training, or the willingness to obtain training prior to the start date is an asset.
- Be available to work evenings, holidays and weekends throughout summer on a rotating schedule.
