Overall Accountability

Under the direction of a Registered Psychologist, the In-Class Support Worker - Complex Autism/Developmental Conditions implements and follows the clinical plan to foster and promote the regulation and essential skills in students with developmental and severe behavioural conditions so that they are better able to function appropriately and acquire additional skills in a congregated or a regular educational setting.

Specific Accountabilities
- In collaboration with the teacher, administration and Registered Psychologist:

- provides direct in-class support to students as part of the classroom team
- teaches students strategies to address social/emotional skill deficits and collaboratively implements that programming within the classroom (i.e., sensory regulation, communication, life skills, etc.)
- responds to students’ social/emotional needs in the classroom (i.e., zones of regulation, body breaks, sensory strategies, calm-down techniques, etc.)
- Assists others with the implementation of strategies outlined in the Learner Support Plan through the direct delivery of programs (i.e., modelling, prompting/cueing, reinforcement strategies and appropriate proactive interventions to reduce occurrences of maladaptive and dysregulated behaviours)
- Assists in planning and implementing the use of Assistive or Augmented Communication devices to support students in acquiring functional communication
- Assists with implementing hygiene protocols including, but not limited to dressing, washing and toileting
- Supports the development and documentation of behavioural and educational program goals as described in the Learner Support Plan
- Attends and contributes to regular classroom and school team meetings, as scheduled

**Qualifications**:

- Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology or Social Work or Human Services field (i.e., rehabilitation counselling, special education)
- Experience and/or training in behaviour modification techniques and philosophies, including reinforcement schedules, tracking and evaluation
- Experience working with students with developmental and severe behavioural conditions
- Understanding and experience implementing programs on essential life skills, social skills and emotional regulation
- Successful completion of training in non-violent crisis intervention
- Demonstrated collaboration and team-building skills
- Physically able to meet all physical demands for this position
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office to create and manage data tracking sheets
- Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
