Powertech has an exciting and challenging opportunity for a Team Lead, EV Infrastructure within its Asset Management Solutions division. The Asset Management Solutions division supports the full life cycle of a customer’s asset. We offer multi-disciplinary engineering support through technology evaluation for suitability, material selection and specification, pre-commissioning support and quality assurance, developing inspection or repair strategies, condition assessment for extending life, or failure analysis at end of life. Within the division, the EV Infrastructure team offers their expertise in designing and executing test programs to thoroughly evaluate functionality and fitness for purpose of new technologies before launching broad scale deployment or customer incentive programs. The department also plays an integral role in helping our parent company, BC Hydro, achieve their deployment targets for public charging.
Under the direction of the Director, Asset Management Solutions, the incumbent will lead the EV Infrastructure team of Engineers and Technologists by providing technical and professional leadership in achieving work program and department objectives in the following focus areas : EV charging infrastructure and deployment, Grid impact and demand response, EV technology assessment and training and network Management solutions for enterprise and the workplace.
As a leader, you will work closely with the Director to identify growth initiatives and influence the EV team’s growth strategy. You will excel at understanding EV market dynamics, customer needs and competitive landscapes, and use the knowledge to drive profitable outcomes.
- Lead and support a team of engineers and technologists in the execution of projects of varying complexities; projects include a mixture of testing, consulting, quality assurance, material management, and research.
- Provide technical guidance on work prioritization and resource allocation to meet project needs; review work in progress and assess completed work for accuracy.
- Provide expert advise by staying current with EV industry trends including but not limited to public charging, home/workplace charging, passenger EVs, EV fleets and incentives.
- Lead the development of long-term EV business strategy and annual department-specific objectives cutting across quality, health & safety, environmental, new services, client engagement, and financial targets; guide the technical and operational performance of the team to meet these objectives and client servicing needs.
- Drive business development activities by seeking out opportunities in areas of expertise, contacting prospective clients, attending conferences and trade shows, preparing proposals, and conducting client follow-ups.
- Set annual staff objectives, conduct mid-year and year-end performance assessment, address personnel performance issues through performance management practices, support staff career progression by establishing personal development plans.
- Establish and maintain departmental procedures of technical, quality, safety, and environmental nature, participate in regular audit of processes and documentation, and engage with support teams on addressing corrective actions in a timely manner.
- Actively mentor and train team members in safe operating procedures and best practices.
**Qualifications**:
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering recognized by universities in Canada. Registered as a Professional Engineer with Engineers and Geoscientists of BC
- Minimum of 15 years of progressive experience with EV charging dynamics and hardware, distribution system, electrical design preferably in the development and implementation of EV infrastructure projects, energy efficiency or similar utility programs. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Minimum of 2 years leadership experience in building a cohesive team of highly qualified technical experts.
- Relevant industry expertise and understanding of EV charging technology and demonstrated industry engagement (e.g. professional societies, codes and standards, conferences, relevant development training, etc.)
- Thorough understanding in principles of managing multifaceted multidisciplinary projects; inclusive of budgets, resources, schedules, and deliverables through proposal, definition, initiation, planning, execution, reporting, and closure stages. PMP Project Management Certification would be an asset.
- Must hold a valid class 5 BC driver’s license or equival
