We have developed some of the world’s largest carbon projects including the Great Bear Forest Carbon Project, which is North America’s largest Improved Forest Management project and the world’s largest forest carbon project by area, as well as the Mai Ndombe REDD+ Avoided Deforestation project, the largest of its kind in Africa.

Our Domestic Land Use division focuses on improved forest and grasslands management projects in various jurisdictions across North America, as well as researching the potential for blue carbon projects in BC.

We work with Indigenous governments and communities, private land owners as well as government agencies and civil society to develop carbon offset projects.

**Role Description**:
As part of the Domestic Land Use team, the Forest Carbon Analyst will support the quantification of carbon volumes through GIS and carbon modeling, support feasibility studies and project design documents related to land use projects across North America, support validation and verification management and provide general technical support.

This role requires a good understanding of forest management, land use change, carbon dynamics and issues around the science of climate change and climate policy in BC and across Canada. Knowledge of US carbon markets is an asset. This is a full time position, reporting to the Director of Domestic Land Use.

**Responsibilities include but are not limited to**:

- Complete GIS analysis and spatial planning regarding land use change activities
- Develop forest inventory
- Complete growth and yield modeling
- Quantify forest carbon stocks and changes in carbon volumes based on land use activities
- Support the feasibility of prospective forest carbon projects through desk-based and field research, and preparing feasibility assessment reports
- Model carbon dynamics of different land use scenarios
- Conduct landscape characteristics assessments using land use land cover data sets
- Support forest carbon project development including feasibility studies, project design and audit support
- Contribute to quality assurance / quality control for modeling and document review

**Required Qualifications**:

- Bachelor’s degree or higher in forestry, natural resource management or environmental sciences
- Strong GIS skills related to land use change and land management practices
- Experience using forest spatial planning software (e.g. Patchworks, SELES, Woodstock or other)
- Experience using Carbon Budget Model (CBM-CFS3) or other carbon modeling software
- Strong understanding of carbon modeling and land use dynamics
- Written and spoken fluency in English
- Minimum 4 years of relevant professional work experience
- Very strong verbal and written communication skills
- Experience with MS Office Suite

**Desirable Qualifications**:

- Experience with carbon markets and carbon project development
- Knowledge of issues related to climate change, land use and land use change
- Knowledge of voluntary and compliant carbon protocols and carbon markets
- A master’s degree in forestry, natural resource management or related field

**Skills**:

- Strong technical report writing skills and attention to detail
- The ability to work with minimum supervision and to make decisions that ensure the success of the deliverable
- Ability to work with a team
