This is achieved through the development of strategic communications plans; the development, production, implementation and management of print and online publications and communications vehicles; social media; strategic marketing and branding; events and promotional activities; media relations; and the implementation of key strategies which engage students, faculty, staff, alumni, and donors. - Key Goals of the Unit: - Strategically plan, develop, implement, and manage a sustainable integrated strategic direction of communications, marketing, and promotional events for the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry- Promote and manage the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry and Robarts Research Institute brand and ensure it aligns at all times and without exception with Western University through - visual/creative dissemination and consistent brand messaging - Plan, develop, implement and manage all communication vehicles and publications that both reflect the Schulich Medicine & Dentistry brand and help build a sense of community amongst all faculty, staff and students and - more than 22,000 alumni - Create a strong, informative and engaging online presence through the creative use of web, social media and e-communication**Responsibilities**: - The Summer Student - Communications will provide entry level support to ongoing services in the areas of administrative services, research services, infrastructure services, or student services. The incumbent will be responsible for providing support to faculty or staff, and for effectively carrying out a variety of tasks in accordance with policies, procedures, and instructions received from their supervisor. The incumbent will take guidance from their supervisor, and work productively and courteously with their work team and other members of the Western community.**Qualifications**: **Education**: - Must be a student returning to studies in the fall - Enrolled in FIMS or Communications at Western preferred **Experience**: - 1 year part time employment or volunteer experience Skills, Abilities & Expertise: - Understanding of how to use social media platforms to maximize audience engagement as asset - Demonstrated ability to find and tell compelling, multi-media stories through social media and other channels an asset - Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize various tasks and projects - Deadline-driven with the ability to perform multiple duties and produce high-quality work - Familiarity with Adobe programs (InDesign, Photoshop, etc.) and CMS platforms is an asset - Photography and videography skills are an asset - Written and verbal communication skills to express ideas clearly, and adapt communication style to suit the situation and audience - Ability to maintain a positive, outgoing attitude with genuine customer service orientation - Reliable and dependable with the ability to consistently work assigned schedule - Ability to follow processes and practices with high attention to detail - Demonstrates integrity and works in accordance with Western's policies and procedures - Computer skills with Microsoft Office, with the ability to learn and use new software programs as required - Personable and courteous in working relationships with colleagues, students and the public - Ability to work independently and effectively as a member of the team to achieve department goals - Ability to work in a manner that is compliant with confidentiality requirements as applicable **Why Western?**: Consideration of applicants will include an assessment of previous performance, experience, and qualifications.
