**About the Role**

The Communications Advisor is Prospect’s lead on internal and external communications, responsible for shaping and delivering messaging that reflects our mission, values, and impact. As the organization’s sole communications professional, this role combines strategic thinking with day-to-day execution to ensure clarity, consistency, and purpose across all communications. Reporting to the Director of Program Design and Revenue Development, the Advisor collaborates across teams to strengthen internal alignment, engage external audiences, and elevate Prospect’s public presence through internal updates, stakeholder messaging, media support, and tone guidance.

In addition to driving organizational and program-related communications, the Advisor plays a role in fund development by supporting grant writing and proposal development. Working closely with the Director, this role contributes to the creation of compelling funder-facing content, including program descriptions, impact statements, and organizational narratives that align with Prospect’s goals and voice. The Advisor also supports award submissions and strategic communication materials for funders, government partners, and other key stakeholders. Their ability to translate complex ideas into clear, purposeful content helps ensure every communication, from grant proposals to public announcements, advances Prospect’s mission and resonates with the people we serve and the partners who support us.

**What will you do?**

**Strategic Communications & Messaging**
- Lead Prospect’s overall communications approach, aligning tone and messaging with our mission, values, and brand.
- Partner with leadership to develop and guide communication strategies for both internal and external audiences, ensuring consistent messaging across all platforms and channels.
- Support organization-wide initiatives with clear, timely, and purpose-driven messaging, including change communications, updates, and engagement efforts.

**Internal Communication & Culture**
- Build communication tools that strengthen alignment, culture, and connection among teams.
- Support cross-functional initiatives by helping staff communicate clearly with each other and their stakeholders.
- Ensure internal messaging is inclusive, transparent, and consistent.

**External Communication & Public Presence**
- Work closely with program teams to translate service outcomes and participant stories into meaningful, compelling narratives.
- Draft and edit public-facing materials, including media statements, community updates, reports, award submissions, and partner communications.
- Collaborate with our Digital Media Specialist to keep messaging unified across platforms and audiences.

**Proposal & Fund Development Support**
- Write organizational summaries, impact statements, and other content that makes our case clearly and powerfully.
- Tailor messaging for funders, partners, and public audiences with an eye for alignment and clarity.

**Message Integrity & Communications Leadership**
- Be a champion of tone, voice, and message consistency across the organization.
- Offer guidance and review support to teams writing on behalf of Prospect.
- Help ensure all communications reflect our commitment to equity, accessibility, and inclusive language.

**What does it take to do this job?**
- A background in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field; through education, experience, or a combination of both.
- At least 5 years in a communications role, ideally in a nonprofit or mission-driven environment, where you've led strategy and delivered results.
- Strong writing chops across formats whether you are drafting a funding proposal, crafting an internal update, or shaping a message for a public audience.
- Proven experience supporting grant writing and fund development communications, with the ability to turn complex information into compelling, funder-ready narratives.
- Sharp editing skills and a strong sense of tone, clarity, and consistency.
- A knack for balancing strategy with execution; you can see the big picture but also enjoy diving into the day-to-day.
- The judgment and flexibility to work independently, collaborate across teams, and support leadership with thoughtful, timely communications.
- A deep commitment to inclusive, equity-informed communication that builds trust and reflects diverse voices and experiences.
- Familiarity with the nonprofit sector and an appreciation for the communication challenges and opportunities of mission-driven work.
- Some post-secondary education and/or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience will be considered for this role.
