The Store Manager is responsible for the daily operations and profitability of the school’s General Store. The Manager provides effective leadership to the Assistant Manager and a team of 20 parent volunteers. CDS families can purchase uniforms, stationery and promotional items from the store. The store opens prior to the start of school and is open Monday to Friday, 5 hours/day, during the school year. The Manager is responsible for customer service, inventory selection and management, store presentation and product merchandising.
**Key Responsibilities include**:
- Manage customer accounts and respond to all queries. Address customer complaints professionally, leaving the customer with a positive resolution.
- Ensure uniform and branded merchandise comply with design standards and dress code.
- Source and purchase all stock items and maintain relationships with all vendors. Arrange for special orders and address changes in dress code and course supply needs.
- Supervise and train staff and volunteers to provide excellent customer service. Ensure the store is staffed during posted hours and back to school period. Coordinate work to ensure productive operations.
- Maintain stock levels through efficient inventory management to meet the needs of the school. Complete semi-annual inventory counts and identify mark-down or discontinued items.
- Receive inventory and manage returns and quality issues.
- Process vendor invoices, prepare bank deposits, and print month end reports for the School’s Business Office.
- Ensure that merchandise is well displayed and that items are priced correctly.
- Assess sales patterns and make sound business decisions when buying large quantities and/or filling orders with minimum quantities.
- Source new products and create new CDS-branded products based on current fashion trends and customer preferences.
- Work with employees and students to source employee clothing, special order clothing and gifts.
- Manage the online store. Evaluate and develop online store sales and processes.
**Knowledge, Skills and Experience**:
- Post-secondary diploma, degree or industry training.
- Minimum of 3 years work experience in the retail industry.
- Minimum of 2 years of management experience or 2 years of supervisor experience in a retail environment.
- Knowledge of principles for retail management, purchasing, customer service, and merchandising.
- Demonstrated ability to train and motivate staff.
- Proven excellent customer service skills and troubleshooting skills.
- Professional, responsive, and positive work attitude is essential.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills and ability to work independently.
- Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
- Proficient with Google Workspace or MS Word and Excel.
- Ability to learn and become proficient with Point-of-Sale software quickly.
- Politically and culturally sensitive and able to maintain confidentiality.
- Well-defined sense of diplomacy and solid conflict resolution skills.
