BCIT’s **School of Energy **is seeking a **regular, full-time (1.0 **FTE**) Toolroom Attendant**. This position provides assistance to instructors and students of the Machinist program by performing duties related to a toolroom, such as issuing and receiving tools and training material, preparing purchase requisitions and monitoring and maintaining inventory for the machinist shop.

**Duties & Responsibilities**

**DUTIES** **AND**

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:
**Toolroom maintenance**:

- Issues, records and checks tool boxes, tools and equipment, and student lockers.
- Checks for damage or loss of tools and equipment.
- Contacts borrowers re: overdue, missing or damaged items.
- Makes minor repairs on damaged tools; making minor adjustments to precision tools.
- Prepares paperwork for sending tools for repair.
- Monitors, tracking and maintaining an inventory of all tools and supplies for shop area.
- Issues videos, books and learning materials.
- Maintains WHMIS data and MSDS sheets.
- Maintains a clean, tidy, safe environment within the toolroom.
- Cuts steel inventory according to program requirements.

**Other**:

- Monitors supplies and prepares purchase requisitions for approval of Chief Instructor and contacts suppliers for quotations.
- Checks incoming orders for correctness and places items received into inventory; notifies central stores of any discrepancies and file related documents.
- Operates Class III lift-truck (forklift).
- Assists students in the selection of tools required by projects as well as provides students with an orientation of the tool room operations.
- Undertakes other related duties, as assigned, consistent with the grade of this position.
- As required, represents the department on Committees (i.e. Occupational Health and Safety).
- Participates in Records Custodian training and remains current with record keeping practices, policies and procedures (both BCIT and FOIPOP).
- Undertakes related duties as assigned consistent with the job grade for this position.

**Qualifications**

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

**Education**:
**License(s)/Certifications(s)**:

- Valid driver’s license.
- Valid Forklift Operators license, or willing and able to obtain license.

**Experience**:

- Two years of general experience, plus one year of current experience in a position of similar responsibility in an educational or an industrial environment (e.g. machinist shop).

**Software/Computer Application(s) and Expertise**:

- Experience using database and business enterprises software.

**Communication/Interpersonal Skills**:

- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills; proven ability to provide outstanding customer service.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with others and handle conflict using tact and discretion.
- Demonstrated ability to use good judgment, ability to work with confidential information and to demonstrate initiative.

**Administrative Skills (e.g. prioritizing, minute taking, wp speed, etc.)**:

- Demonstrated ability to make responsible decisions with mínimal supervision.
- Must have excellent organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks.

**Other Skills/Abilities**:

- Must have working knowledge of tools and equipment.
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time and be able to lift and carry heavy objects of up to 50 lbs., without the aid of a hydraulic lift or hand truck.

**Salary Range**
- Salary Grade 5: $53,641 - $57,817 per annum.**Additional Salary Information**
