Position Summary
- Reporting to the Manager of the Genetics department the Genetic Clerk is responsible for performing clerical duties under the general direction of the Program Manager/Genetic Counsellor/ and or the Genetic Counsellor Assistant. The Genetics Clerk is a member of the interdisciplinary team and is responsible for all clerical related duties for the program.
Responsibilities include the tracking and monitoring referrals, maintaining communication with patients/families and doctors as required. Liaising with community partners, medical and hospital staff to ensure sharing of accurate and timely information.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support team in receiving and organizing of incoming referrals
- Supports team in co-ordination patient appointments and follow ups
- Communicates with patient/families regarding appointments
- Liaise with CPSR to appropriately book patient appointments
- Co-ordinates communication between clinic and other health care providers
- Participates in team meetings
- Assists in any follow up required by the team
- Performs other clerical duties as assigned
Performs other duties as may be assigned by the direct manager.
**Qualifications**:
- Education:
- Completion of a Secondary School Diploma (Grade 12) required
- Medical Terminology course required
- Completion of a recognized post-secondary (Medical Administration, Medical Secretary) diploma preferred
**Experience**:
- Knowledge of the Genetics program preferred
- Knowledge of Cerner Scheduling and Registration system
- Experience in patient registration, and outpatient booking required
- Computer literacy and good working knowledge of Word/Excel/Outlook
- Keyboarding skills minimum of 50 words per minute required
- Highly motivated and flexible with the ability to adapt quickly to new situations/challenges
- Ability to organize and prioritize workload, manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines, and work as a productive team member.
- Demonstrated ability to understand and demonstrate through performance, an acceptable level of ethical conduct and a thorough understanding of discretion and confidentiality.
- Demonstrated excellent communication skills in English (both written and verbal) and interpersonal skills to interact with a range of individuals in a variety of situations, which require tact, discretion and confidentiality in relation to working with patients across the care continuum.
- Excellent work performance and attendance record required.
