**Job Title**: Mechanical Assistant

**Department**: Vocational

**Reports to**: Vocational Development Director

**Position Overview**: Serving the ministry in the daily operations of the Vocational Shop and Vehicle Donation Program in Winnipeg. Assessing donated vehicles and assisting with repairs on ministry vehicles as directed.

**Duties and Responsibilities**: Note: This is not a complete list of this position’s duties and responsibilities. The items below are examples of the types of activities performed. Other duties may be assigned.

**Primary Responsibilities**:
1. To serve and professionally represent the ministry with excellence.
2. Perform routine automotive maintenance tasks, including oil changes, tire rotations, transmission flushes, air conditioner re-charges, battery installations, etc.
3. Maintain a working knowledge of current industry best practices in automotive repair.
4. Conduct extensive diagnostic procedures to determine the sources of problems and provide accurate repair recommendations.
5. Assist in inspecting vehicles according to the Province’s requirements for emissions and safety.
6. Conduct necessary repairs and take vehicles for test drives to verify soundness.
7. Maintain legible and accurate paperwork for both the customer and for our records.
8. Clean and maintain the work environment to ensure shop cleanliness, equipment longevity and workplace safety.
9. Help and assist where needed in the sales of vehicles, parts and other items.
10. 10. Serve the shop leadership to provide organization and plan day-to-day operations of the vocational facility and programs
11. 11. Assist with the execution of the Vocational Workplace Certification Programs while providing support and supervision to facilitators on location (exp. forklift, bobcat, welding, etc ).
12. 12.To serve and provide support to all centres with needs pertaining to fleet vehicles including repairs, maintenance or replacements when requested
13. 13. Assist with the preparation and support for special events.

**Schedule**: To be set by the Vocational Director, These hours may change over time and may required to evenings and weekends.

**Decision Making**: Is able to communicate and report suggested changes with the appropriate Director for approval.

**Qualifications**:

- Mechanical Engineering Technology or Equivalent (preferred)
- 5+ years automotive technician experience or Willing to train under our on staff Red Seal Mechanic to obtain Trade Certification.
- Willing to take new assigned training, and live an example of a life long learner.
- Strong organizational skills and highly effective communication skills.
- Working knowledge and willingness to adapt to web-based programs and reporting.
- Concise and friendly customer service skills.
- Understanding of human nature and the physical and spiritual battles that they may face.
- Ability to diffuse tense situations.
- Actively demonstrate and maintain excellent working relationships with all program staff and all other departments.
- Can set priority’s and finish task in a timely matter.
- Valid MB driver’s License.

**Salary**: $35,000.00-$40,000.00 per year
