**Position Overview**:
The Camrose Women's Shelter **Rural Outreach Gender Based Violence Primary Prevention Worker** will play a pivotal role in the lives of vulnerable Albertans. The goal of the program will be to work in rural, remote and underserved communities to change environmental factors and social norms known to contribute to gender-based violence by working within communities to educate on the prevention of gender-based violence. In addition Our Shelter uses Trauma Informed Practice.
This out-of-scope position is an 14-month contract ending by February 2026, and will commute between Wetaskiwin and Camrose, including small rural areas in the Camrose County and Wetaskiwin County west of Camrose.
**Position Description**:
The Rural Outreach Gender Based Violence Primary Prevention Worker has four distinct components that will support the rural and remote communities in East Central Alberta
- School Presentations and work with youth sports teams
- Community presentations and attending Awareness Events
- Healthy Relationships Groups
- Engaging men and boys
The purpose of this position is to ensure that the community at large is informed about the impact of domestic violence and abuse. As a result, individuals and their families can function in a more healthy and productive manner in all aspects of their lives.
**Qualifications**:
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in social sciences, social work, child and youth development, corrections, or related areas is preferred. Life/work experience equivalencies may be considered.
- Valid driver's license.
- A combination of knowledge and experience in the following areas: domestic violence, homelessness, mental illness, addictions, Trauma Informed Practice, and Indigenous culture and practices
- Experience working with Trauma Informed Practice (TIP)
- Excellent decision-making skills, time management skills
- General interviewing and assessment skills
- Facilitation Skills
- Willingness to be innovative and creative in enhancing current processes
- Be a team player who is self-motivated and works effectively in a fast-paced environment with deadlines and multiple workflows
- Must possess exceptional public relations, interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills
- Discretion, tact, and ability to maintain confidential information
- Experience in providing one-on-one support with emotional intelligence.
- Ability to work independently and as a conscientious team member.
- Highly organized and familiar with rural and remote communities' needs
**What you will be responsible for**:
Enhance current processes with innovative and creative approaches. Work effectively in a fast-paced environment, managing deadlines and multiple workflows with self-motivation. Possess exceptional public relations, interpersonal, and communication skills, both written and verbal. Maintain discretion and handle confidential information with tact. Provide one-on-one support with emotional intelligence. Work independently and as a conscientious team member. Be highly organized and familiar with the needs of rural and remote communities.
**Project Coordination**:
Work with the Rural Gender Based Violence Primary Prevention Coordinator to implement, evaluate, and monitor the project with CWSS. Identify and address the ongoing needs for GBV prevention in Camrose, Wetaskiwin and surrounding rural regions. Build partnerships with rural partners to support the outreach program. Travel as needed to support clients and the program, meeting in safe locations.
**Community Engagement**:
Maintain relationships with shelter staff, and community agencies, businesses, schools, sports teams, and police detachments. Provide educational presentations on bullying, domestic violence, abuse, and healthy relationships in schools. Offer ongoing education on domestic violence and abuse to community agencies, businesses, and police. Schedule and adapt presentations to community needs and lead healthy relationship groups in rural and remote communities.
**Administrative and Social Media Responsibilities**:
Gather statistics and administer surveys at events. Attend relevant meetings. Participate in supervision, annual appraisals, CWSS training, professional development, and ad hoc committees. Fulfill additional tasks as assigned.
