Dispatch Operations Manager

The Dispatcher is responsible for the scheduling and dispatch of drivers, work crews, equipment, service vehicles, to deliver freight or other services, to a wide range of customers and contractors. The Dispatcher's responsibilities also consist of assigning drivers to trucks and providing accurate directions to pickup and delivery facilities. The ability of a dispatcher to analyze needs and resources is a key component to optimizing efficiency and thereby maintaining the maximum amount of profitability. The role includes providing support in a fast-paced office environment assisting in completing operational and data entry tasks in a timely and accurate manner.

- **Job Duties**_
- Schedule and dispatch trucks, and various shipments with goal to book the most timely service possible
- Direct the pickup and delivery activities of drivers
- Provide accurate directions for pickup and delivery services
- Solve problems by considering courses of action within the framework of management goals and standards
- Schedule and dispatch vehicles, equipment, or service vehicles to appropriate locations according to requests, specifications, or needs, using radios or telephones.
- Relay work orders, messages, and information to or from work crews, supervisors, and field inspectors using telephones or two-way radios
- Track shipments from pickup through delivery so accurate, up-to-date, information can be provided regarding any shipment
- Oversee and facilitate all communications
- Advise personnel about traffic problems such as construction areas, accidents, congestion, weather conditions, and other hazards
- Monitor personnel and/or equipment locations and utilization in order to coordinate service and schedules
- Manage a real-time transportation database utilizing computers and available technologies
- Receive and process transportation requirement requests from customers
- Adhere to corporate and departmental policies and procedures
- Ensure all invoicing-related materials are available to Business Management Team to facilitate timely invoice processing
- Performs other duties as required
- **Requirements**_
- High school diploma or GED required
- Previous supervisory experience required
- Logistics business-related experience preferred
- Transportation industry knowledge and experience an asset (i.e. shipping/receiving, scheduling, freight negotiations, regulatory requirements, hot shot or long haul)
- Experience with dispatching software an asset
- Mid-level to advanced computer skills - Outlook, Excel, Word
- Able to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times

- Monday to Saturday in peak season, No Sundays
- Overtime as required

- dispatching: 1 year (preferred)

Licence/Certification:

- Driver's License (Class 5 or Class 3) (preferred)
