ANALYST 1 - Microbiology

This is a Full-Time position with Medical Benefits and Retirement Savings Plan

As an ANALYST 1, your responsibilities are:
Entry-level laboratory position covering a variety of procedures that require knowledge in Biology/Chemistry and aseptic procedures. Responsible for sample preparation (soil and water), media preparation and relatively straightforward laboratory testing.

Key Accountability/Responsibilities:

- Follow Standard Operating Procedures.
- Ensure that working records are completed and raw data is appropriately labelled.
- General housekeeping of laboratory and workstations.
- Prepare and clean glassware required for sample analysis.
- Prepare samples, sub-samples and reagents. Ensure samples, extracts and standard solutions are properly labelled and stored in the appropriate location.
- Ability to safely handle pure microbiological organisms and cultures.
- Quality Media preparation and laboratory maintenance.
- Perform simple analysis, including operation of balances and meters.
- Maintain up to date maintenance records for instrumentation.
- Meet quality and turnaround time specifications required by the client and ensure samples are analyzed within holding time requirements.
- Provide supervisor with updates on workstation status including advance notification of any delays.
- Maintain control charts as per QA manual requirements, monitor for failure to meet tolerances and consult with Supervisor regarding remedial action.
- Standard laboratory environment
- Availability for shift work, OT and weekend work as required
- Other responsibilities as assigned.

You are an ideal ANALYST 1 if you have [Minimum Requirements]:

- You have a Technical diploma, B.Sc. preferred.
- You have experience performing aseptic procedures.
- You have knowledge of standard operating procedures and instrumental techniques.
- You have basic laboratory cleanliness skills.
- You have good analytical laboratory skills.
- You have good organizational skills.
- You have good time-management, communication, multi-tasking and priority setting skills.
- You have the ability to do repetitive tasks with few errors.
- You are an independent worker with the ability to block out distractions and work under busy, stressful conditions.
- You have the ability to work as part of a team.
- You can maintain a high level of work production in a fast paced lab environment.

This is a 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. position.

Overtime may be required with short notice.

This position will require a Saturday shift rotation (approx. 2/month).
