The Department of Forest Resources Management at the Faculty of Forestry, UBC Vancouver campus is seeking to hire a part-time sessional lecturer to teach in our Learn and Earn Program for our upcoming summer session occurring in July 2025.
The Learn and Earn Program offers Indigenous high school students in grades 10-12 the opportunity to explore university life through a three-week, land-based summer experience grounded in Indigenous knowledge, environmental stewardship, and culturally-responsive practice. , this program supports students in earning dual credit toward both high school and post-secondary coursework. Students will receive a scholarship for their participation and completion of the program.
This sessional lecturer will teach ILS 101 - Introduction to Natural Resource Stewardship over a three-week period - July 3 to 25, 2025. Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays will be taught 9 am to 1pm and Wednesdays will be a full day field trip to Malcolm Knapp Research Forest.
ILS 101 - Introduction to Natural Resource Stewardship (3 credits)
Introduction to the principles of 'caring for the land' and integrating this ethos into natural resources management, including topics on caretaking for the land, animals, and future generations; sacred places; and the principle of interconnectivity of all living things.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Learn and Earn team to develop and implement course programming- Liaise with the Director, Indigenous and Intercultural Initiatives in the UBC Faculty of Forestry and VSB staff- Mark assignments and provide feedback- Attend orientation meetings- Participate in planning sessions prior to the July program offering- Be passionate about land-based and experiential learning- Participate in and co-plan field trips to the UBC Research Forest
