**Job Summary**
Free Play for Kids is searching for a “Youth & Sport Team Lead”. If you are incredible with kids and have amazing relationship skills, we want you as a part of our team. This job is perfectly suited to anyone who has played lots of sports or is ready to be a great leader and mentor.
**In this role, you will run and manage a Free Play program at one of the 24 schools.**
You will be at your site/school with a team of support staff who are dedicated to working at this site/school every day as well. These staff are all Multi-Sport Coaches. They are a mix of people with backgrounds in child care, sport, and coaching and understand the communities we serve in. Multi-sport coaches may not always be the same meaning you will get to work with a variety of amazing people.
Together, your job will be to deliver a new practice plan every day at your school/site. These practice plans are provided for you and focus on five key sports: soccer, ball hockey, basketball, touch football, and handball. The goal of each plan is to teach life skills through sport.
Along with the practice plans that focus on sports you and the other staff will deliver plans on nutritional literacy, take your team of kids to participate in Free Play tournaments, and occasionally go on field trips.
Your main role, as a “Youth & Sport Team Lead” will include being the captain You'd be the glue that holds your staff team together, ensures the plan of the day is delivered at the highest levels, and that participants in your care feel safe to play, belong, and grow.
**Education & Qualifications**:
- Working towards or completed, a degree or diploma in Physical Education, Sport, and Recreation, Kinesiology, Education, Sociology, Psychology, Early Childhood Education, or equivalent from a recognized post-secondary institution.
- Minimum 3 years experience working with youth such as coaching, social work, in-school services, after-school programs, day homes, or summer camps.
- Standard First Aid Certification and CPR training or ability to obtain quickly.
- Valid driver’s license with no at-fault accidents.
- Clear Criminal and Vulnerable Sector check.
- Experience coaching or delivering sport and play is considered a major asset.
- Experience playing a variety of sports is considered a major asset.
- Experience in customer service and maintaining positive communication is considered a major asset
- Experience managing or leading a team is considered a major asset.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- **Registration**: Support families to register for the programs being held at your sites. Many times there are language barriers that require extra care, For example, finding other staff who speak the language, asking a community member, or meeting in person to work through all the documentation required.
- **Attendance**:being responsible for maintaining the attendance list to ensure proper check-ins and check-outs are conducted each day. You will also be monitoring the attendance for continued absence. You will follow up with kids and families who are not regular attendees to ensure attendance or to have them released from the program to offer the spot to another participant on the waitlist.
- **School Site Liaison**: being the main liaison with your school site and maintaining positive relationships with the school and school contacts, working collaboratively with the school contacts to plan around school events and scheduling constraints.
- **Managing and Supervising Staff**: manage and supervise your team of Multi-Sport Coaches, volunteers, and practicum students that are assigned to your school site.
- **Scheduling**: schedule Multi-Sport coaches, volunteers, and practicum students and find coverage when they are sick or away. Ensure that timesheets are completed in a timely manner.
- **Curriculum and Practice Plans**:make sure your team has practice plans for each day and understands the sessions they are delivering alongside you. Support them by walking through the plans and by providing additional resources and guidance.
- **Delivery of Sessions**:coach and lead the execution of the curriculum and lesson plans.
- **Policy and Procedures**: keeping up with policies and procedures to know what to do in case of emergency, and proper follow-up of incidents.
- **Tournament Coordination**:coordinating with other Youth and Sport Team Leads in your region to run a smooth tournament.
- **Field Trip Coordination**: Occasionally, you’ll take your school on field trips. You’ll be the main coordinator for getting kids to and from the activities, similar to the tournaments.
- **Reporting to Supervisor**:check in with and report to the Free to Play Program Manager and Free to Play Program Coordinator daily to ensure smooth communication.
