**Job Summary**
We are looking for a skilled, motivated, and creative Assistant Pastry Chef who will also take on the responsibilities of a Kitchen Supervisor. This dual role is ideal for someone with a strong background in baking and a natural ability to lead a team, maintain high-quality standards, and bring artistry and precision to our pastry offerings.
**Core Responsibilities**
**Pastry & Baking Duties**
- Prepare, bake, and finish a wide variety of pastries, desserts, bars, cakes, and baked goods following standardized recipes and seasonal menus.
- Decorate and plate pastries with artistic flair, using various techniques including piping, glazing, dusting, and garnishing.
- Package and label finished goods for display, wholesale, or customer pickup, ensuring all items meet brand presentation and quality standards.
- Ensure all production is completed on schedule and items are ready for opening or service periods.
- Accommodate custom orders or special dietary requests (e.g., gluten-free, vegan) with precision and care.
- Monitor oven temperatures, baking times, and food textures to ensure consistent results.
- Contribute to new menu ideas or seasonal creations with input and recipe testing.
**Kitchen & Food Safety**
- Maintain cleanliness, organization, and sanitation of all workstations and equipment.
- Follow FoodSafe and health regulations at all times.
- Label, date, and rotate inventory using FIFO procedures.
- Ensure proper storage and disposal of ingredients and prepared items.
- Regularly clean ovens, mixers, proofers, and small equipment as part of daily/weekly maintenance.
**Inventory & Ordering**
- Track usage of ingredients and supplies daily and communicate low stock levels to the manager or place orders as needed.
- Receive, inspect, and store incoming ingredients or products, ensuring accuracy and freshness.
- Maintain inventory logs as required.
**Leadership & Supervision**
- Supervise kitchen operations during your shift, including task delegation, prep schedules, and break coverage.
- Open or close the kitchen according to standard procedures.
- Train, mentor, and support junior pastry cooks and prep staff.
- Monitor production efficiency, cleanliness, and teamwork during the shift.
- Act as liaison between front and back of house for service coordination or custom orders.
- Handle issues or emergencies calmly and professionally, escalating when appropriate.
- Maintain a strong presence on the floor during rushes or high-volume days.
**Skills & Requirements**
- Proven experience as a Pastry Cook, Assistant Pastry Chef, or similar role in a commercial kitchen or bakery.
- Strong understanding of baking techniques, food prep, and artistic decoration.
- Knowledge of kitchen equipment including mixers, ovens, proofers, sheeters, etc.
- Familiarity with food safety standards and commercial kitchen health regulations.
- Ability to multitask and lead a team in a fast-paced environment without compromising quality.
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative, positive attitude.
- Excellent attention to detail, presentation, and cleanliness.
- A passion for high-quality food and delighting customers.
