**About Our Opportunity**:
Working within the mission, vision, values and person-centred philosophy of the Agency, the Victim Support Worker is responsible for providing support to clients who have experienced violence and may or may not be involved in the justice system as a result of being the victim of abuse. This includes providing specialized services appropriate to the nature of the victimization of the client, as well as to the level of involvement with the criminal justice system. The Victim Support Worker will assist in the recovery of clients by lessening the impact of crime and trauma, ensuring survivors are effectively supported through the justice process, assisting in the creation of safety plans, and helping survivors cope with the effects of the crimes committed against them. Support will also be provided to non-offending family members and friends who are close to the immediate victim. It actively supports the Agency’s awareness and goals around diversity and inclusion.

**What do you need to succeed?**

**Education, Training, Experience**
- BSW or relevant BA plus two years related work experience. Equivalencies will be considered.
- Experience and familiarity with the justice system and social services

**Knowledge, Skills, Abilities**
- Knowledge of dynamics of violence in intimate relationships, sexual assault, criminal harassment and sexual/physical abuse in childhood
- Knowledge of, and experience with, community-based and feminist approaches to intervening in violence against women, taking into account the intersectionality of persons marginalized on the basis of gender, race/ethnicity, economic status, language, culture, age, ability, sexual or gender identity
- Knowledge of Provincial Policy on Violence Against Women in Relationships
- Understanding of the criminal justice system
- Knowledge of crisis intervention and support skills
- Knowledge of Crime Victim Assistance Program
- Ability to work independently and on a team
- Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with justice system personnel and other victim service and community programs
- Understanding of cross-cultural and equity issues
- Computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word
- Second language is an asset

**Additional Requirements**
- Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check
