_**Nova Scotia College of Early Childhood Education is currently hiring Permanent Full-Time Level 2 or 3 Early Childhood Educators for our Lab Schools with the**_ _**Potential for Career Advancement**_

Salary ranges from ECE Level 2 - Step 1 hourly rate $21.43 to ECE Level 3 - Step 5 $25.12 based on the new Nova Scotia Compensation Scale with additional employee perks.

- **Expectations for the Early Childhood Educators**:_

As demonstration sites, the lab schools are expected to model the ingredients of developmentally appropriate practice which are articulated in the academic program. The expectations for the lab schools are as follows:

- Adhere to all licensing requirements set out by the Early Learning and Child Care Act of Nova Scotia.
- Model the philosophy of the college.
- Follow and model the developmentally appropriate practice philosophy.
- Model policies, practices and procedures taught in the academic program regarding behaviour guidance, parent involvement, health and safety, nutrition, curriculum development, children with special needs, and anti-bias inclusion.
- Mentor students while on practicum at the lab schools.
- Demonstrate knowledge of course content currently being taught in ECE program.
- Model curriculum development strategies of emergent curriculum.
- Articulate rationale for classroom duties and practices to students, parents, external community members.
- Deliver workshops to adults on topics related to duties and practices.
- Provide appropriate written and verbal feedback to practicum students.
- Attend meetings with the college faculty to review and modify curriculum.
- Provide feedback to faculty regarding course content and practicum experience.
- Act upon curriculum and administrative feedback and direction provided by centre directors and director of early learning and child care programs.

**Staff Qualifications**:

- Diploma in Early Childhood Education (minimum requirement) with a current Level 2 or 3 ECE Classification
- Two years experience working in child care an asset.
- Current knowledge of NSCECE philosophy and curriculum an asset.
- Current knowledge of NSCECE mission, vision, and values an asset.
- Proven record of functioning as a team member.
- Experience with adult learners an asset.
- Knowledge of Nova Scotia Early Learning Curriculum Framework an asset
- Knowledge of the Pyramid Model an asset.
- Current First Aid and CPR, Criminal Reference Check with Vulnerable Sector Check, and Child Abuse Registry Letter

**Articulated Relationship between Lab Schools and Academic Program**

The Nova Scotia College of Early Childhood Education lab schools are an integral component of the training and education of early childhood educators, extending student's opportunities to integrate theory and practice. The lab schools are located in the **Institute of Technology (Leeds Street Child Care Centre), Akerley** **(Akerley Child Care Centre)** **and Ivany (Mawio’mi Child Care Centre) **campuses of the Nova Scotia Community College. As an extension of the training and education of Early Childhood Education students, the lab schools and lab staff are expected to adhere to the requirements identified in this document. The intent of this document is to clarify the linkages and expectations of both the lab school and the academic program, and the individual staff involved in both. The spirit of this relationship is to be a collaborative one.
