**JOB SUMMARY**:The purpose of the Practicum Coordinator role is to develop and maintain relevant experiential learning opportunities (i.e. Practicum placements), prepare students for success in their placements, as well as their eventual transition from Ontario Tech.

**MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES**:
**1. Placement Development and Community Partner Support**:

- **Develops and maintains relevant Practicum Placements for 4th year FSSH students
- Pursues new practicum placement opportunities with prospective organizations
- Identifies and researches potential placement organizations
- Contacts/ meets organizations to assess supervision, projects, and alignment of outcomes
- Conducts visits to monitor/evaluate placement activities, learning objectives, and satisfaction
- Gathers student feedback and community-partner feedback (evaluate partnership)
- Confirms and manages placement arrangements, processes, and procedures
- Maintains accurate records of participating organizations
- Plays an active role in community events, outreach, relevant internal committees, etc.
- Maintains existing placement opportunities and continues to strengthen relationships

**2. Student Support and Supervision**:

- **Prepares students for their practicum placement and eventual transition into the world of work
- Advises students of Practicum eligibility requirements, policies and procedures
- Reviews the Practicum Manual, important dates and next steps
- Discusses students’ roles and responsibilities and clarifies expectations
- Interviews each student participating in the Practicum
- Discusses specific prospective placement organizations and expectations
- Helps students navigate practicum guidelines and procedures
- Scans internal and external variables, interprets and decides convergence of outcomes
- Works with organizations to negotiate optimal matching strategy
- Communicates and coordinates work-timelines, assignments, and paperwork
- Manages each student-organization match
- Administers and follows-up on interim and final evaluations
- Assists students in connecting with career exploration and job search support

**3. Faculty Liaison and Committee Work**:

- **Provides contact information for guest speakers
- Generates and promotes community engagement
- Connects Faculty with organizations, coalitions, boards, etc.
- Disseminates news from community partners and attends program meetings
- Participates in Faculty committees and University-wide committees in support of student success

**4. Promote FSSH and Ontario Tech to External Partners**
- **Acts as an ambassador and speaks at community events
- Attends after-hour events, Open Houses, Career Fairs, etc. to promote FSSH EL Programs
- Assists with marketing and promotional materials including web and social media content

**5. Administration**:

- **Creates and updates practicum policies, procedures, and materials
- Maintains up-to-date work calendar
- Maintains Student files (as required)
- Maintains Employer files (as required)
- Maintains Practicum Metrics and Milestones

**Education**:

- **Completion of a university program consisting of three academic years with equivalent work experience is required
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
- Verification of Academic credentials may be required

**Experience**:

- **Minimum 3 to 5 years working in a post-secondary environment
- Experience working with or advising undergraduate students on experiential program information
- Front-line experience with students is preferred

**Knowledge**:

- **Knowledge of cultural competency and diversity
- A demonstrated knowledge of experiential learning theory and career preparedness

**Skills**:

- **Well-developed written and oral communication skills, and strong presentation, organizational and time management skills
- Experience working and/or volunteering with non-profits, NGOs, and social service organizations
- Superior interpersonal skills with an ability to connect with a diverse range of personalities and perspectives
- Excellent problem solving and conflict resolution skills
- Able to manage multiple projects and priorities
