**ABOUT THE POSITION**
Reporting to the Superintendent, Environment the Supervisor, Environment works in collaboration with the Corporate Environmental team to manage key environmental & regulatory requirements for the Back River Project. Providing expertise and support to Operations, Maintenance and Projects Teams, the Supervisor leads the development and implementation of Sabina’s Environmental Management System and fulfillment of authorizations to allow for the safe and efficient operation of the project. Working on a rotational basis (3x3) in a remote camp setting, the Supervisor, Environment manages the implementation and review of Environmental Projects to achieve compliance with regulatory requirements and commitments with Stakeholders.
**PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES**
Reporting to the Superintendent, Construction, duties will include (but are not limited to):
- Support development, implementation, and monitoring Sabina’s Environmental Management System to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the project in compliance with existing permits, licenses, and other regulatory needs. Implement and effectively communicate environmental policies and standards across site;
- Support external reporting as required under existing permits, licenses and Sabina’s Environmental Management System;
- Coordinate the implementation and review of Environmental Projects site wide to achieve compliance with regulatory requirements and commitments with Indigenous Stakeholders including baseline, construction (including to be constructed drawings), and operational conditions (including as built resorts);
- Develop and maintain relationships with external Stakeholders and Indigenous groups;
- Coordinate onsite environment monitoring and environmental baseline data collection;
- Identify risks associated with environmental activities of the project and implement approved risk mitigation measures. Complete environmental risk assessments and report deficiencies that affect environmental aspects;
- Provide environmental expertise during permitting processes;
- Understand and comply with environmental permits and regulatory requirements for site teams and anticipate requirements for permit amendments to limit impacts on production and operation;
- Provide site-based technical support and review of environmental aspects of the project and ensure the proper data management for project monitoring programs. Maintain database systems as required;
- Ensure the safe and efficient use of field and laboratory analytical equipment. Perform field monitoring and sampling as required; and
- Develop working relationships with all site based departments to instill a culture of environmental awareness and accountability through leadership.
**DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS**
- Four (4) years of experience in implementing and maintaining environmental programs in mining (preferred) or construction environment and prior experience in a supervisory capacity considered an asset;
- Diploma or degree in Earth Science, Environmental Science or related discipline;
- Professional certification or planned advancement through the Canadian Environmental Certification Approvals Board as an Environment Practitioner (EP or equivalent);
- Experience with environmental aspects related to the mining industry, including (but not limited to) water quality, air quality, environmental effects monitoring, permitting, and regulatory liaison with external stakeholders; and
- Experience working with Indigenous groups in a professional capacity with experience working on remote sites with limited access to resources.
