**PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY**
Provide direction and leadership for multi-shift operations to meet productivity, customer service, business growth, regulatory and quality compliance requirements. This includes the efficient introduction of new products, the cost-effective execution of the production plan, production of quality product, safety, employee morale, short, and long-term manpower, equipment resource planning, training, coaching of staff and compliance to current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) requirements.
Participate as part of the senior management team in providing strategic leadership and team building to achieve the business objectives of the organization.
**SPECIFIC DUTIES**
**Production**
- Responsible for all elements of multi-shift activities in the production departments including execution of production schedules in a safe, efficient and cost effective manner to meet customer service.
- Responsible for meeting departmental objectives for productivity, schedule attainment, labour utilization, safety, cost, customer service and employee relations.
- Responsible for maintaining operations (within reporting departments) with respect to production efficiency, quality, and sufficient capacity to meet future demands.
- Foster the development and continuous improvement for operations to meet and/or exceed business and customer needs by:
**a) **Improving product quality
**b)** Ensuring regulatory compliance
**c) **Minimizing cost, maximizing productivity
**d)** Maximize customer service levels
**e)** Eliminate waste and non-value-added activities.
- Responsible for the development and achievement of production standards (routings) for new and existing products, setting of KPI’s (metrics) and related improvement plans.
- Responsible for implementing and supporting project management initiatives for new products and existing projects.
- Responsible for the preparation and management of departmental budgets within Operations.
- Actively supports new business opportunities or initiatives in the form of feasibility studies and operating strategies and the introduction of new products with excellence.
**Quality, Safety and Compliance**
- Ensures compliance with current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP’s) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) as outlined in Regulatory Guidelines and company standards.
- Responsible for ensuring that all production meets or exceeds customer quality expectations. Ensures quality investigations are performed thoroughly and in a timely manner and that root cause(s) and corrective actions are identified and actioned as required.
- Maintain and support an effective safety program and ensure compliance with government and company requirements. Foster the development and implementation of good safety practices through the Joint Health and Safety Committee.
- Supports compliance to all environmental requirements (Federal, Provincial, and Municipal). Fosters the development and implementation of sound environmental practices - recycling, waste treatment and disposal, spill control, etc.
**Employee Relations**
- Responsible for effective employee relations and morale within reporting departments including which will include but is not limited to the following:
**a)** Effective training and motivation of permanent, contract and temporary
Operations employees.
**b) **Development of Managers, Supervisors, and professional staff through an
effective Performance Management System and coaching to provide strong,
motivated leadership staff to meet both short and long term goals
**c) **Responsible for maintaining and improving collaborative teamwork between
Operations departments and other functions to ensure maximum productivity
and resolution of mutual problems.
**d) **Effectively handling personnel issues including hiring, grievances, dismissals,
and incident reports or other disciplinary actions to ensure equitable and fair
relations.
**e)** Monitor performance and behaviour of direct reports and approve
performance appraisals for all personnel within reporting departments.
**EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE**
- University degree in Chemistry, Pharmacy or Chemical. Postgraduate and continuing education programs to enhance technical and business knowledge.
- Broad knowledge of manufacturing principles in a GMP facility and a minimum of 8 years management experience in manufacturing operations of consumer products and/or pharmaceuticals.
