REPORTS TO: Dining Services Manager/Cook

IMMEDIATE SUBORDINATES:
**ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVE**

Under the direction of Dining Services Manager/Cook is responsible for the pre-preparation and some basic cooking of food for all regular and therapeutic meals provided to residents and

visitors.

**BACKGROUND/QUALIFICATIONS**

Minimum one year experience in volume food preparation in dining environment. Must be a high school graduate. A certificate in food preparation from an accredited school and/or cooks’ certificate is required. Good English oral and written communication skills and arithmetic calculations. Able to stand extensively and lift. Ability to work under stress in busy kitchen, under hot, humid conditions. Must have Safe Food Handling certificate. Knowledge of Infection Control Standards.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**

Participates in, and contributes to, the Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) program.

Maintains high standards of quality food production, storage control and portion control.

Ensures maintenance, cleanliness and proper usage of all equipment in production area.

Adheres to policies relating to storage and use of leftovers.

Adheres to sanitation standards as outlined by Public Health and Diversicare policies.

Follows sanitation and housekeeping functions in this area.

Confers with Cook about production of meal systems.

Ensures that all equipment is cleaned and in good working condition.

Maintains safety standards.

Participates in menu planning.

Adheres to the use of standardized recipes and production sheets.

Receives deliveries and checks receipts against specifications and orders.

Acts as back up to the cook in his/her absence as required.

Reports promptly to cook any unusual occurrences.

Complies with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, and Workplace Hazardous Material Information System. This includes recognizing health and safety hazards, reporting incidents, fulfilling responsibilities under the applicable legislation, as well as participating in in-services and fire drills.

**Job Type**: Part-time
Part-time hours: 20 per week

**Salary**: From $20.94 per hour
