As an integral part of the Fibre Team, the Operations Superintendent will be responsible for all aspects of Harvest Planning, Harvesting Operations and Post-Harvest Assessments including safety, cost, quality and productivity for their division. The Operations Superintendent will have oversight of the Harvesting team and all contractors for their division and be a liaison with the Planning, Silviculture, Fibre Manger, and sawmill.

**DUTIES**:
- Manage contractor safety, performance, and environmental stewardship in the operations
- Management of a strong staff and contractor workforce, to achieve size, species profile and cost targets for Conifex’s facilities
- Develop strategies and provide leadership and direction to improve safety, reduce operational costs, enhance log value and maximize margins while meeting mill requirements
- Plan and execute annual road, harvest and post-harvest programs
- Participate in various contract negotiations
- Professional interaction with Government personnel and industry partners
- Oversee remote camps and water transport operations
- Engaging and developing relationships with key stakeholders and suppliers. Stakeholders include: Harvesting and Road Contractors, Communities, Local government agencies, Other forest licensees Harvesting representatives, Non-timber tenure holders
- Participate in the development of annual budgets and rolling monthly outlook projections to achieve cost targets
- Demonstrate the highest level of commitments to continuous improvement initiatives by implementing cost effective management processes and actively participating in Conifex’s deployment strategies
- Participate and lead initiatives to grow / improve Canfor’s business and customer relationships.
- Providing and supporting a positive atmosphere for personal, professional and team development.
- Ensure that all workers under their direction receive appropriate training and instruction
- Ensure employees are made aware of all reasonably foreseeable health or safety hazards in their areas of work
- Understand the work process, the hazards involved and implement effective control measures for the hazards
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies
- Observe workers in the performance of their duties and through timely feedback and coaching, ensure that they are performing tasks safely
**Requirements**:
- University Degree or Technical Diploma in Forestry or Natural Resource Management. RPF, RFT
- Minimum 5 years’ experience across a spectrum of forestry work including cruising, planning, harvesting and silviculture would be considered an asset
- Registered as a forestry professional with the Association of British Columbia Forest Professionals
- Demonstrates a sense of urgency and ability to meet deadlines
- Strong work ethic and love of the outdoors
- Excellent leadership and communication skills, project management skills, and an ability to work within a team environment
- Ability to build partnerships with First Nations and stakeholders, and foster trust
- Knowledge of applicable BC legislation and policies
- Self-motivated team player with ability to communicate verbally and in writing
- Strong computer skills and aptitude for forestry-based technologies
