Team Lead, Finance
Alberta Innovates is seeking a Team Lead, Finance who will be responsible for managing the day to day operations of our General Accounting, Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivables functions. The Team Lead, Finance will lead the development and operationalization of processes across the corporation, working with key stakeholders, and will provide leadership, oversight, mentoring and training to direct reports to ensure high quality control and consistency in accounting processes.

The successful incumbent will be accountable for, but not limited to:
Interprets policies and protocols, ensures they are understood, provides insights and recommendations, and identifies opportunities for improvement.
Performs daily audits of accounts payable batches to review coding and to ensure appropriate expenditure officer approvals have been obtained prior to payment, and that accounts receivable cash receipts batches are applied to the correct customers and bank account.
Ensures accounts payable vendor invoices are processed on a timely basis, and reviews and enters expenditure contracts and manages complex accounts payable transactions and GOA interunit transactions.
Prepares banking requests, ensuring company accounts have adequate funds and bank transactions are properly recorded. Reconciles deposit transaction between bank and systems, ensuring discrepancies are mínimal; processes journal entries and completes cash deposit audit.
Completes monthly remittances to Revenue Canada (GST); reconciles GL accounts as assigned.
Manages staff activities, plans and monitors team workflow, establishes team goals and objectives, assigns and directs work, monitors productivity and work quality, ensures adherence to policies and best practices, manages recruitment and performance review activities.
Contribute to the development and execution of business and operational plans.
Execute assigned delivery action plans and implementation tactics in support of department priorities and goals.
Support monitoring of established processes, policies and protocols for adherence and effectiveness, and contribute to approaches to resolve issues and improve/streamline.
Develop and maintain relationships with both external and internal stakeholders

Qualifications; Post-secondary diploma in Accounting/Finance. A degree in Accounting or Finance is preferred. A Certified Professional Accountant (CPA) designation is preferred.
10 years related accounting, accounts payable/receivable experience. Demonstrated leadership experience, working collaboratively with others, and labour relations. Demonstrated ability to deliver results by influencing and working through others. Experience in customer relationship management. Ability to generate respect and trust from staff and external stakeholders. Knowledge of Government of Alberta policies and practices. Ability to maintain a high level of function, including prioritizing multiple tasks, in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. Proficiency with complex principles, practices and procedures. Strong proficiency with the English language, with excellent verbal & written communication skills. Strong problem-solving skills and an investigative nature. Conflict management and resolution skills. Meticulous attention to detail with superb organizational skills. Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
