**Role**:
The EOHS Manager will act as an expert in occupational health and safety, environmental management, and sustainability programs. Reporting directly to the Director of Product Assurance, this role is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining a proactive EOHS management system that ensures compliance with all federal, provincial, and municipal laws and regulations related to occupational health and safety and environmental protection, as well as customer requirements. This position will require daily presence at the MDA Montreal plant site.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Lead, mentor, and manage staff and EOHS Coordinators; provide coaching, performance feedback, and professional development opportunities to build a high-performing EOHS team.
- Support, implement, and maintain MDA Space EOSH programs to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations, as well as MDA policies and procedures.
- Participate in field visits to government agencies to understand applicable EOSH regulations and ensure compliance.
- Act as co-chair of the JOHSC, ensuring compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, the requirements of the Department of Labour, and other provincial and municipal EOHS regulations.
- Report regularly to the business division’s operations management team on EOHS performance, risks, and opportunities.
- Promote the internal accountability system (IAS) by encouraging shared responsibility for safety at all levels of the organization.
- Develop, implement, and maintain EOHS programs, policies, and procedures tailored to SATSY Montreal’s operations.
- Collaborate with other business units to share best practices and ensure consistency of EOHS standards across the organization.
- Lead and provide expertise during internal and external health, safety, and environmental audits.
- Lead and oversee pre-startup health and safety reviews in accordance with Quebec regulations for equipment, processes, and plant modifications.
- Collaborate with facilities, operations, and engineering departments during space planning, expansions, and process changes to ensure regulatory compliance and EOHS integration.
- Conduct workplace inspections, safety audits, risk assessments, and environmental impact reviews.
- Manage incident investigations using root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Monitor and report compliance to management, external regulators, and customers.
- Monitor, analyze, and report key health and safety performance indicators (KPIs) to management and stakeholders, ensuring that trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement are clearly communicated.
- Develop orientation programs for EOHS employees, regulatory training, and behavioral safety coaching for employees and managers.
- Encourage teams to proactively identify hazards, risks, and sustainability opportunities.
- Promote a culture of prevention and accident-free safety through continuous improvement initiatives and behavioral safety programs.
- Support and maintain environmental management systems (EMS), pollution prevention initiatives, and sustainability projects.
- Monitor environmental performance indicators (KPIs) and compliance with municipal, provincial, and federal regulations.
**Requirements**:
- University degree in occupational health and safety, environmental science, engineering, or a related field.
- Professional accreditation in EHS (e.g., CRSP, CIH, CHSC, CSP).
- 10 to 15 years of progressive experience in EOHS in industrial or engineering environments, including experience in unionized environments.
- Demonstrated leadership ability in managing, developing, and motivating EOHS professionals to achieve strong results and foster a culture of safety excellence.
- Previous experience in the aerospace, manufacturing, or industrial sectors.
- Experience in developing and implementing EOHS management systems, including risk assessments, policies, and training programs.
- Proven experience as co-chair of a JOHSC and as a leader of SRI initiatives.
