**JOB DESCRIPTION**
**Duties**:
- BC Hydro acquires power from Independent Power Producers (IPPs) to help meet B.C.'s
- electricity needs. BC Hydro’s IPP Portfolio Management team is responsible for managing
- business and contractual relationships with IPPs that develop and operate electricity generation
- projects such as wind, water, biomass and solar and sell power to BC Hydro. BC Hydro’s portfolio
- of IPP contracts includes about 130 agreements and IPPs comprises about 25% of BC Hydro’s
- electricity supply.
- Our team includes senior professionals from diverse backgrounds with strong commercial
- instincts, and they are responsible for managing a range of complex issues.
- As a regulated utility, we are responsible for providing information to the BC Utilities Commission
- regarding our activities that may impact the cost of energy for our ratepayers. In addition, we have
- obligations to seek acceptance from the BC Utilities Commission for new agreements and
- changes to existing agreements for the purchase of electricity.
- This position involves plays a major role in fulfilling our regulatory obligations, and also provides
- support in the development and implementation initiatives related to the management of BC
- Hydro’s portfolio of contracts with IPPs.
- Specific duties and responsibilities:
- Provides expert level counsel, policy and mitigation advice on major complex regulatory issues
related to IPPs and the sale of electricity to BC Hydro.- Researches, formulates, develops and presents company positioning strategies on complex IPP- Represents BC Hydro's interests and provides expertise for development of electricity purchase
- agreements or power acquisition programs.- Provides expert input to the development of the regulatory strategy for IPP Portfolio
Management as it relates to the overall corporate regulatory strategy and its linkage and
- alignment to corporate business objectives, other corporate initiatives and shareholder
- expectations.- Accountable for preparing and presenting internal and external briefing materials for
Government, Executive and Board that provide policy recommendations and present complex
- policy issues in a clear and easily understandable way.- Provides analysis of provincial regulatory issues and provides policy support for issues related to
BC Hydro’s IPP Portfolio.
- This position provides leadership for the regulatory strategy for projects that are significantly
- higher risk, higher impact.**Qualifications**:

- Bachelor’s degree in a field such as Economics, Commerce or Engineering is required. Ideally,
combined with additional graduate or post-graduate education in business or law and/or a
- professional designation (e.g., CPA, CFA). Equivalent experience will be considered.- At least 10 years of professional experience with at least 5 years of direct involvement in one or
more of the following areas of focus: regulatory issue management, contract management,
- business case development and/or strategic assessment, and/or contract law.- Strong contract and tariff interpretation skills, as well as familiarity with the energy sector in B.C.,
including the history of its development, regulatory framework and related legislation, is an asset.- Demonstrated experience in leading complex projects and initiatives that involve cross-functional
teams.- Strong business acumen and an ability to make decisions at a strategic level, taking into
consideration often competing interests and emerging policies.- The successful applicant will be a resilient and positive self-starter with a high level of skill and
ability to provide effective leadership during times of change and changing priorities.- Strong service orientation and experience with working with executives, as well as with all levels
of an organization.- Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, problem-solving
and ability to work well in a fast-paced environment.- Excellent relationship building skills and the ability to communicate effectively and cultivate
quality relationships with customers, First Nations, and key business partners.
