Building and Maintenance Worker

An energetic and pro-active Building Maintenance Worker is needed to meet the needs of our growing organization.

**Job Summary**:
**Responsibilities**:
**_Janitorial duties: _**
- Opens and/or locks up buildings and all office and program areas.
- Sets up kitchen areas including laundering cleaning items, setting up tables and chairs in cafeteria and auditorium areas, setting out cups, napkin dispenser, and condiments.
- Stocks the restrooms with paper products and soap.
- Cleans and maintains buildings including cleaning of restrooms, vacuuming carpets, dust-mopping floors, cleaning windows and mirrors.
- Cleans and maintains kitchen(s) including wiping tables, counters, sinks, washing cups.
- Arranges furniture and supplies for special events.
- Maintains and cleans parking lots and sidewalks using hand tools to remove debris.
- Cleans entryways and glass doors and windows.
- Responds to emergency cleaning needs.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

**_Maintenance Duties: _**
- Performs maintenance duties as assigned and which may include:

- Repairs and restorations to structural systems, including: Minor painting projects; Drywall repairs; Repairs to/changes of locks; Building/installing shelving; Periodic roof inspection, cleaning and minor repairs
- Repair and servicing of mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems, including: Adjustment of heating/air circulation controls and replacement of filters; Minor repairs to plumbing systems; Basic electrical maintenance, replacement of ballasts, plugs, etc.
- Repair and servicing of miscellaneous minor equipment, such as lawnmowers, tools, office cabinets, etc.
- Vehicle Repairs and Servicing: Changing fluids, repairing lights, performing other minor bodywork and mechanical servicing; Cleaning vehicles
- Minor gardening tasks - mow and trim lawn, shrubs and other duties.
- Pick-up and delivery of supplies and products between sites using Society vehicle.
- Performs other related duties as assigned

**Required Skills**:

- Physical capabilities to operate equipment and perform janitorial and maintenance duties.
- Ability to communicate effectively with members of the Garth Homer Community/ the public.
- Ability to organize work and carry out the duties of the position with independence.
- Excellent time and general management skills.
- Ability to be a collaborative team member

**Required Qualifications**:

- Completion of Grade 12 and a minimum of 2 years’ experience in a janitorial position with a significant minor maintenance component or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Must possess a valid Class 5 Driver’s license.
- Acceptable criminal record check

This position can be physically demanding

This position requires Union membership.

**Salary**: $21.63-$25.19 per hour

Schedule:
