Reporting to the Manager, Communications, Marketing, & Public Affairs this exciting opportunity will play a key role in developing and growing Elexicon Energy’s online presence and relationships with customers, critical influencers, and media. You are an excellent storyteller and writer and can connect the dots between data driven insights and content planning. You know how to promote a company’s brand value through the use of videos, photos, infographics, or text posts on a variety of social media platforms and have experience in media relations with the ability to craft strong media pitches, news releases and media messaging. As a key contributor to the crisis communications team for a leading public utility you understand that sometimes you will be required to work after hours and on weekends.
A day in the life includes monitoring the media and social channels for industry news, planning, and developing social media campaigns, crafting compelling content or getting it developed, posting content across social media accounts and on the Elexicon Energy blog or Resource Hub page, engaging with customers on different channels, analyzing running campaigns, staying on top of the latest social media and PR trends and data analytics and trend reports to management.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Tell Elexicon Energy’s story using all appropriate earned and paid media and communication channels
- Maintain, develop, and optimize existing social media platform strategies, including establishing new presence on emerging platforms
- Monitor and proactively increase social traffic, growth, and engagement performance across all external channels
- Create organic social and video content, as well as social and media campaigns ensuring traffic and growth targets are met
- Working with the Manager, support the President and CEO, by growing her online presence through organic content on their social media profiles (industry advocacy, DEI, company news, speaking engagements, etc...)
- Support content creation for the Elexicon Energy website by writing blog posts, website copy and resource hub articles.
- Generate new social media and PR campaign ideas aimed at gaining support for Elexicon’s marketing, communications and public affairs framework and advocacy related programs.
- Promote the Elexicon Corporate Giving Program on social media and assist in the execution of any social media/media relations activities that come from sponsorship activities.
- Lead and execute a robust social media planning process, including the use of a content calendar, social media planning tools like Social Flow, and sentiment monitoring tools
- Responsible for social media and media measurement & reporting.
- Act as key media relations contact, including writing media messaging, news releases, backgrounders, opinion editorials and working with company spokespeople (or acting as a media back-up).
- Elexicon Energy is an essential service in our community. You will be required to work closely with a cross-functional team to ensure key messages during a crisis or electricity outage are communicated effectively and consistently and in a timely fashion to customers and the community, including monitoring and responding to the public on social media and traditional media. Must be willing to work on standby rotation after hours and on weekends.
EDUCATION, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE
**Education and Experience**:
- Education (University and/or College degree) in Communications, Journalism, or Public Relations and a minimum of 5+ years of related experience.
- Prior experience working as a social media manager or coordinator, or in a communications/journalism/PR role where social media content creation and management was a part of your role is a requirement for this position.
- Experience working in a public utility or within the energy sector is an asset.
- Graphic Design or using Adobe Creative Suite or Canva or similar social media creation tools is an asset.
