Annual salary: $ 155,000.00 - 196,000.00

**Position Highlights**
With the interest in electrification accelerating, BC Hydro is implementing a Call for Power and is in the planning phase to
implement a series of future power calls in the coming years. This work is needed to ensure we have enough clean,
renewable energy to support the growing demand. This is an exciting, dynamic and growing function in the organization.

This team leads the planning and implementation of electricity procurement processes, working across the company to
understand the future BC Hydro system needs that require going to the independent power producer market to achieve and
designing procurement processes to meet these needs. In addition to this internal engagement, we also engage externally
with First Nations, industry and stakeholders to understand opportunities to advance reconciliation into energy acquisitions,
as well as understand commercial aspects. A key objective is to ensure an appropriate balance is struck to meet BC
Hydro’s customer needs in a cost-effective way.

This team ensures successful completion of deliverables to support the current and future calls for power.

This position is responsible for leading, developing, planning and implementing BC Hydro’s power acquisitions strategies
and programs for major calls for power, calls for greenfield energy and capacity projects.

**What you'll do**
- Specific duties and responsibilities:

- Leads the development and analysis of options related to power acquisition processes, product definition, commercial

terms, and contract terms; working with other groups in the business as required.
- Manages planning, development and implementation of more complex power acquisition processes, including long-range

planning, engagement, risk identification and mitigation, eligibility criteria, project requirements definition and parameters,
contract design, etc.
- Determines required resources (both internal or external) required to implement strategies and programs.
- Works with inter-disciplinary teams within BC Hydro to develop and implement engagement programs for First Nations

and industry stakeholders with respect to more complex power acquisition programs.
- Provides expert level counsel, policy and risk mitigation advice on power acquisitions issues related to IPPs and the sale

of electricity to BC Hydro.
- Represents BC Hydro's interests and provides expertise for development of electricity purchase agreements and power

acquisition programs; may lead bilateral negotiations and development of new partnership structures to enable procurement
of complex power products.
- Accountable for preparing and presenting briefing materials for Executive and Board that provide policy recommendations
- and present complex policy issues. Also responsible for preparing external briefing materials, such as materials to be
submitted to Government.
- This position provides leadership for BC Hydro’s more complex power acquisitions programs, which involves high risk,

high impact/ complex projects that involve multi-discipline, cross-functional, and cross-organizational scope.

**What you bring**
- Bachelor’s degree in a field such as Economics, Business, Commerce or Engineering is required. Ideally, combined with

additional graduate or post-graduate education in a relevant discipline and/or a professional designation (e.g., CPA, CFA).
Equivalent experience will be considered.
- At least 12 years of professional experience with at least 5 years of direct involvement in one or more of the following

areas of focus: power acquisitions from independent power producers, electricity purchase agreement contract
negotiations, and business case development and/or strategic assessment.
- Strong contract interpretation skills are required, and familiarity with the energy sector in B.C., including the history of its

development, regulatory framework and related legislation, is an asset.
- Experience in renewable energy project development, financing, is an asset.
- Demonstrated experience in leading complex power acquisition projects and initiatives that involve cross-functional teams,

and require exercising independent judgment in analysis and problem
