**Youth Worker (Relief)**

**Mon. - Fri. 6:00pm to 9:00pm**

**SUMMARY**:
1. To plan, promote & implement programs, activities & special events for youth ages 11-24 based on recognition of their individual needs and which fosters positive youth development.

2. To advocate on behalf of youth and to provide support & resources for self-determination and representation.

3. To provide support and development of skills in independent program solving & decision making.

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:
1. Plan and operate under the supervision of the Supervisor, Youth Programs

2. To develop and implement educational and recreational programs and activities for youth ages 11-24 that will; develop individual well-being by increasing self-concept, self-worth and self-determination; increase participation in decision-making process and build a sense of community among the youth of the Waterfront Neighbourhood Centre. Responsible for designing and implementing activities based on individual and group needs and interests.

3. To assist in community development and outreach and to act as a resource to community and youth groups as they seek to identify their needs and develop resources to meet these needs on an ongoing basis.

4. To assist youth in accessing multiple services, supports, resources and to maintain active connections with other resources and organizations.

5. To facilitate community involvement and encourage volunteers and parents to assist in the programs and activities.

6. To develop, support and evaluate leadership training opportunities and other skill building activities for youth.

7. Promote the centre’s activities at large capacity.

8. To provide regular program reports and evaluations, documentations for all serious encounters.

9. Arrives for scheduled shifts on time.

10. Performs other program related duties as assigned.

**MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS**:

- Post-secondary degree; or diploma in social work or related human service discipline or combination of equivalent related education and professional experience.
- Experience in working with youth and demonstrated commitment to a community-based approach to service delivery.
- Knowledge of related community services.
- Creative ability and understanding of child/youth developmental factors, behavior management, program planning and group facilitation.
- Coaching Certification is an asset.

**CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT**:

- Current CPR and First Aid required.
- Vulnerable Sector Screening - Police Reference Check

**Salary Scale**: 20.42/hr + 4% vacation - Wage Grade 4- Step 1. This position is a unionized position with CUPE Local 2998

**Hours**:as per needed. Monday - Friday (Some weekends, evening may be required).
