Emergency Department Programs at CHEO:
Our staff and doctors are committed to providing the very best care to the children and youth who come through the doors of our Emergency Department (ED). In fact, we have been providing emergency care since 1974 and we see more than 75,000 kids a year. We currently have an exciting opportunity for a positive and seasoned leader to join our ED team in a management capacity.

The Clinical Manager of ED Programs will provide day-to-day clinical leadership & management of CHEO’s Admitting Department, Trauma Program, Sexual Assault Care Program, Outreach Program, Follow-Up Care Program, and non-clinical staff in the ED. The Clinical Manager will work with the other members of the ED leadership team to ensure the development and implementation of departmental strategies, corporate goals, and objectives. The Clinical Manager will actively participate in Quality Improvement activities to advance and expand patient care and access to services. In addition, the Clinical Manager will work in collaboration with other departments and stakeholders to ensure that organizational strategies are achieved.

The Clinical Manager of ED Programs represents CHEO by liaising with external agencies, establishing networks, and building partnerships to enhance regional relationships and projects with respect to trauma care, medicolegal care, and pediatric emergency care.

**MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Work in collaboration with staff and physicians in all departments to ensure effective delivery of patient care/services.
- Manage human resources of more than 60 staff effectively, which includes:

- Hiring, scheduling, managing performance, and managing attendance,
- Ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations,
- Conducting performance reviews and working with performance related issues,
- Ensuring staff have the required training, resources, and support to carry out their roles.
- Work collaboratively with the ED Clinical Manager to provide support and guidance to teams within the ED.
- Assess staff learning needs and participate in the development of programs dedicated to the enhancement of specialized knowledge and skills related to pediatric trauma care and post-sexual assault care.
- Design, implement, promote, and evaluate educational materials and activities for staff within the ED and, where relevant, across the hospital.
- Manage budgets and reporting, including managing within assigned budgets; monitoring expenses; processing payments; financial reports.
- Follow-up with incident reports generated through the Safety Reporting System including Patient Experience Files.
- Ensure the development and ongoing updating of ED program manuals/procedures/policies.
- Communicate comprehensively to all levels, staff, management, executives, stakeholders, patients, and families.
- Ensure that the ED staff works efficiently in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations, Occupational Health and Safety, as well as all CHEO policies and procedures, in order to provide a safe environment to staff, patients, and families

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) (Essential)
- University Degree in Related Health Care Field (Nursing Preferred) (Essential)
- Certification/License/Registration with appropriate College or Association (Essential)
- Minimum of five (5) years of related experience (Essential)
- Minimum of five (5) years of progressive leadership experience in a healthcare setting (preferred)
