**The Ministry of the Solicitor General, Ontario Provincial Police, and the Regional Commander of East Region seeks a qualified individual to join our Unit. In this exciting, rewarding and challenging opportunity, you will provide operational support to the detachment by taking OPP/detachment inquiries and dispatching the appropriate service response. You will also provide reception and administrative support to Detachment personnel in the co-ordination and processing of administrative services.**
**Note: This position requires the ability to work a schedule that includes evenings, overnights, and weekends.**
**About Us**:
The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is one of North America's largest deployed police services with more than 5,800 uniformed officers, 2,400 civilian employees and 830 Auxiliary officers. We provide essential services that ensure the safety and security of the people of the Province of Ontario. The OPP is a division of the Ministry of the Solicitor General, the largest operational ministry in the province with a presence in every community across Ontario. We are the largest police service in Ontario and the second largest in Canada.
The Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry (SD&G) Detachment is the largest of the 16 detachments that report to the East Region Headquarters in Smith Falls. The detachment is responsible for policing the three United Counties of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry, which is comprised of six individual municipalities. The population consists of approximately 65,000 year-round residents, which increases from May to October due to summer residents and tourism. The land area of SD&G is approximately 3,250 square kilometres. It is located at the extreme south-east tip of Ontario and borders with the Province of Quebec. The St. Lawrence River flows along the southern border and Highway 417 and the east end of Ottawa make up the northern border.

**About the job**: You will provide operational support to the detachment by taking OPP/detachment inquiries and dispatching the appropriate service response. You will provide reception and administrative support to Detachment personnel in the co-ordination and processing of administrative services.**What you bring to the team**:
**Mandatory requirements**:
- Ability to pass an OPP background/ security investigation.
- 40 w.p.m. typing speed.
- Ability to work 12 hour shifts in a 24-hour rotating shift environment.
**Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**:
- Ability to plan and prioritize administrative work on a daily basis.
- Oral communication skills to clarify the nature of requests from callers, relay messages, and respond to enquiries by providing detailed information, in person and by phone to agencies, companies, court and legal personnel, police services, and the public.
- Teamwork and interpersonal skills to interact with officers and other members of the detachment.
- Knowledge of record management practices to maintain an organized, up-to-date record system.
- Written communication skills to input accurate information, compose correspondence, proofread a variety of documents, compile reports, and summarize information.
- Ability to work with mínimal supervision in performing clerical and administrative support duties. Supervision is available for the more difficult decisions and question.
- Ability to problem solve to provide assistance in fast paced or emergency situations.
- Knowledge of, and skill in, computer operation and software including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint to produce court documents and type correspondence.
- Ability to select appropriate format/design for office documents and make editing/proofreading changes to documents, reports, letters, and memoranda.
