Job Summary
The Aeronautical Information Operations Specialist within the Standards and Procedures, Aeronautical Information Management (AIM) and Instrument Flight Procedures (IFP) Design team uses their broad and solid aviation background and high degree of analytical skills to assess the operational impact to end users of changes in aeronautical information. These essential qualities combined with a good understanding of aeronautical information management and NAV CANADA processes and functions, bridges the gap between data requirements, operational & stakeholders’ requirements, and end products. The Specialist applies their knowledge and understanding in the development and maintenance of NAV CANADA standards, specifications and requirements, as it related to aeronautical information and data, to maintain compliance of applicable international and national standards, regulations and practices in the development of aeronautical products and introduction of technology while ensuring adequacy for use to support aviation operations.
The Specialist assesses processes used in AIM in relation to the Annexes 15 and 4 Standards and Recommended Practices, PANS-AIM provisions, Canadian regulations and NAV CANADA procedures and advises on strategies to maintain or increase compliance.
This position must maintain a broader perspective that includes the use of AIM products in operations, and current and future AIM requirements in order to effectively collaborate with Transport Canada and assess draft ICAO or other material that could affect AIM production.

Key Accountabilities:
- Research existing and new aeronautical information related regulations, standards and best practices, and recommend strategies to increase or maintain compliance.
- Assess the operational impact to AIM processes and AIM product users from planned or proposed changes.
- Draft AIM-related policies, procedures and, occasionally staff instructions.
- Collaborate with TC to propose changes to Transport Canada documents, manuals and advisory material to support the delivery of the Aeronautical Information Service (AIS) in accordance with CAR 803.01 and ensure understanding by relevant stakeholders (such as airport and aircraft operators, third party procedure designers, etc.).
- Assess the compliance of AIM processes, work instructions and products to applicable regulations, standards and practices and whether they meet the industry’s needs.
- Collaborate with Transport Canada and industry to establish the requirements for data sets to be collected for the effective delivery of the AIS.
Job Requirements
Education:
- Successful completion of secondary school or equivalency and;
- Possessing or having possessed a Canadian Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL) or military equivalent.
Experience:
- Experience using NAV CANADA AIS products in flight operations in the past 5 years.
- Experience using in flight operations of third-party products based on Canadian aeronautical information/data such as but not limited to Electronic Flight Bags or Foreflight.
- Experience flying commercially (or military) within Canada.
- Experience in IFR and VFR flight operations at controlled and uncontrolled sites in Canada or abroad.
Knowledge:
- In depth knowledge of Parts III, VI and VIII of the Canadian Aviation Regulations and associated Standards pertaining to Aeronautical Information.
- In depth knowledge of ICAO Annexes 4, 11, 14 and 15 and of the Procedures for Air Navigation Services as it relates to AIM (PANS-AIM), as well as sound knowledge of the ICAO operational requirements for information concerning aerodrome facilities and services.
- Knowledge of the Canadian NOTAM system, including RSC NOTAM as associated regulations, of airspace classes, designations and usage.
- Knowledge of the Canadian Aeronautical Information Services system and operational use of AIS/AIM printed and electronic products.
- Familiarity with Navigation database providers and data integrators (data houses) requirements.
- Familiarity with TP312 aerodrome standards and with the Canadian Advisory Circular and Aerodrome Safety Circular system.
