**PROGRAM: Settlement Program**
**WORK HOURS: 30 Hours/Week**
**RATE OF PAY: $29.00/Hour**
**EMPLOYMENT TERM: Contract for 1 Year**
**DBNC** is an accredited, non-profit organization providing support services to residents of Mississauga including newcomers to Canada, youth, seniors, and families. **JOB SUMMARY**:
This role is geared to contribute to the expansion of wellness services for children and youth within the East region of Mississauga. This position will collaborate within an interdisciplinary team of health professionals across the region/community network, as well as within DNBC’s team structure, in support of goals that align with and achieve DBNC’s Strategy, Mission, Vision, and Values. The Youth Wellness Health Counsellor works in partnership with community organizations and service partners/providers to deliver health and wellness programs and supports for individuals and the community.
**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:
- Work with individuals (children and youth up to age 24) and their families in the community to identify their needs, provide short-term support, and assist with accessing further community supports through internal/external referrals.
- Act as an advocate for clients to provide assistance/links to a variety of resource networks, services, and programs in the community to improve their overall health and well-being.
- Develop, implement and evaluate programs, services, and community initiatives in response to community needs in order to achieve organizational objectives.
- Ensure all necessary paperwork (i.e. registration forms, permission forms, incident reports, attendance, feedback forms etc); statistics and reports/evaluations are completed.
- Provide supervisory duties to student placements and/or volunteers through ongoing coaching, support, and direction as required.
- Complete program proposals and evaluations to align with the agency’s strategic plan.
- Actively lead/participate in internal collaborative efforts, projects/committees and networks as applicable, to influence/ keep abreast of trends, best practices and partnerships to advance the agency’s vision, mission, and values.
- Other duties as required for the scope of the role, and as assigned by the Settlement Programs Manager
- Assess gaps between available services and client needs; provide input into program development
- Respond to program inquiries and referrals.
- Develop and cultivate partnerships with youth-serving agencies
- Compile and submit accurate and timely monthly reports.
- Support DBNC initiatives including, focus groups, volunteer appreciation, and other special events.
- Ensure that client files are kept up to date and confidential
**QUALIFICATIONS**:
- Post-secondary education/degree/diploma, preferably in health/social services, with a minimum of 2 to 5 years of related experience.
- Proven ability to effectively support and advocate for clients, collaborate with other interdisciplinary team members as well as effectively function independently with clients.
- Facilitation skills for community programs.
- Demonstrate effective risk management, as aligned with policies, procedures, and protocols (e.g Health & Safety; AODA requirements; Respect in Workplace; violence prevention and other operational policies, etc.).
- Proven communication (including facilitation, public speaking, and presentation skills), conflict resolution and negotiation skills with diverse stakeholders.
- Proven research, evaluation, and planning skills and ability to effectively support children, youth, and their families regarding their mental health and wellness.
- First-Aid/CPR training, High Five training, and Mental Health First-Aid are an asset
- Fluency in another language other than English is considered an asset
- Legally eligible to work in Canada
- Mandatory police check - completed within the last six months
