**Important Role Information**
This role is to be based in Toronto, Vancouver may also be considered. This role is a hybrid working model, with time spent at the SEMP offices, Client Offices and your home office.
SEMP is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Project Controller to join our dynamic team. As a Project Controller, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the successful execution, financial management, and Earned Value Management (EVM) of our rail infrastructure projects. Your expertise in project controls, financial analysis, risk management, and EVM, along with a minimum of 2 years' experience driving Microsoft Project and other project management tools within the rail infrastructure sector, will be essential in driving project performance, optimizing resource allocation, and facilitating effective decision-making. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the success of our rail projects, make a significant impact on our organization, and ensure logic-linked and resource-loaded schedules are produced and maintained.
**Responsibilities**
**Project Financial Management**
- Establish and maintain project budgets, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and alignment with project requirements and objectives.
- Monitor project financial performance, including revenue, costs, and expenditures, and provide regular reports to project stakeholders.
- Conduct financial analysis and forecasting to identify trends, risks, and opportunities specific to projects, and recommend appropriate actions to optimize project profitability.
- Collaborate with the finance team to ensure accurate and timely project accounting, invoicing, and financial reporting.
**Project Controls and Earned Value Management (EVM)**
- Develop and implement project control procedures, tools, and systems to track project progress, performance, and compliance.
- Drive the utilization of Microsoft Project and other project management tools to create and maintain logic-linked and resource-loaded schedules.
- Create and maintain project structures (WBS/ABS/CBS/OBS).
- Set up and manage Earned Value Management (EVM) systems, ensuring accurate measurement of project performance, earned value, and cost and schedule variances.
- Monitor and control project schedules, milestones, and deliverables, identifying potential delays, risks, and issues, and recommending mitigation strategies.
- Establish and maintain project documentation, including contracts, change orders, and progress reports, ensuring adherence to organizational and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct regular project performance reviews, analyzing variances and deviations, and providing actionable insights to project teams and management.
**Resource Management**
- Collaborating with project managers and team leads to forecast resource requirements, including personnel, equipment, and materials, and ensure adequate resource allocation throughout the project lifecycle.
- Monitor resource utilization and availability, identifying potential bottlenecks or constraints, and propose solutions to optimize resource allocation and project efficiency.
- Support the recruitment and onboarding of project staff, working closely with HR and project managers to ensure the timely availability of qualified resources.
**Risk Management**
- Identify and assess project risks and uncertainties, developing risk mitigation strategies and contingency plans in collaboration with project teams.
- Monitor and evaluate project risks throughout the project lifecycle, facilitating risk mitigation actions and escalating significant risks to project stakeholders.
- Maintain risk registers, documentation, and communication channels to ensure timely and effective risk identification, analysis, and response.
**Stakeholder Collaboration**
- Collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders within the rail infrastructure sector to understand project requirements, objectives, and constraints specific to rail projects.
- Provide timely and accurate project performance reports, status updates, and financial analysis to project teams, management, and clients within the rail infrastructure context.
- Foster strong relationships with clients within the rail infrastructure sector, ensuring their satisfaction with project deliverables, progress, and financial management specific to rail projects.
**About you**
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, or a related field.
- Proven experience as a Project Controller or similar role, preferably in the rail infrastructure sector.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience driving Microsoft Project and other project management tools such as Primavera P6 and Smartsheet.
- Demonstrated experience in managing complex infrastructure projects, preferably, including system integration and safety assurance.
- Strong knowledge of project management principles, practices, and methodologies.
- Knowledge of systems engineering principles, methodologies, and best pract
