Who we are

We are a small bakery in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan that has a menu of French-inspired baking showcasing seasonal and local ingredients. We use sourdough, locally-grown stone-milled flour, and a wood-fired oven. We choose organic ingredients whenever possible. We respect and care for the process of creating good food from scratch.

The Job

The Bread Baker is part of the bakery production team of The Night Oven Bakery. This position reports to the Bakery Manager.

Bakers are responsible for preparing and baking high quality breads and other baked goods that showcase The Night Oven Bakery’s approach to whole grain flours and local foods. Bread bakers support the baking, foh, and cleaning operations as part of their role as a member of the baking team.

Responsibilities and Competencies
- In cooperation with the bakery manager, responsible for day to day bakery bread production
- Responsible for their workflow, self assessment and planning for the day-to-day production
- Responsible for the planning and execution of daily bread production including but not limited to planning for special events and wholesale accounts
- Responsible for maintaining a clean and organized workspace
- Ability to work well in a high-paced environment
- Ability to maintain a high level of quality and consistency
- Passion for working with hands-on scratch production processes
- Works with the baking team to organize customer orders both custom and regular
- Works with the baking team to track and communicate food inventory
- Must have strong time management, communication and organizational skills
- Other duties as assigned adhering to scheduled workweek hours

Physical Demands and Hours
- Standing for the majority of the work day
- Crouching, reaching, pushing and pulling
- Moving and lifting up to 30kg ie, lifting and moving 20kg tubs of dough or flour
- Shifts are usually 8 hours, start at 4am, earlier at busy times of the year, and as needed with approval of management
- Full-time ~40 hrs/week

Preferred experience

2+ years in a professional kitchen working including at least one year of sourdough bread experience. Certificate or degree in Culinary arts is prefered. Familiar with professional high volume bakery production workspaces.

**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: $17.00-$21.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
