John Ross & Sons is currently seeking a **Yard Foreman **to join our team in Truro, Nova Scotia. As the largest scrap metal recycling facility in Atlantic Canada, we seek a hard-working, dedicated, and safety minded individual to join our team.

**JOB DESCRIPTION**:
**HOURS OF WORK**:Full-time. Monday to Friday, 7am-5pm; Saturday 7am-12pm.

The role requires working outside in all weather conditions, with significant walking and moderate physical activity for large parts of the day. Other essential job functions include:

- Work with the Senior Facilities Manager to ensure proper staffing and training is in place to support on-going operations of the organization;
- Responsible for assessing the day-to-day needs of the yard/site employees and communicating with dispatch, resource needs regarding labor, supplies and equipment;
- Provide leadership and direction to improve safety and ensure safe work practices are implemented to address risks;
- Ensure compliance of all employees with safety requirements, instructions and best work practices;
- Maintain recycling yard and site organization;
- Train and direct employees in proper use of site equipment (forklift, bobcat, excavator);
- Perform other duties as assigned.

**JOB REQUIREMENTS**:

- Three plus years’ experience of staff management, appraisal, development and planning;
- Three plus years’ experience in the scrap metal industry is an asset;
- Experience operating forklifts, bobcats, and other heavy equipment is required;
- Must have excellent problem solving skills with the ability to find suitable solutions for productivity, environmental, safety-related, and employment issues;
- Must have effective written and verbal communication skills;
- Strong analytical and mathematical skills.
