**The Program**

Skyline is a licensed 2-bed co-ed resource, focusing on youth ages 13-18, receiving services through the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD).

Skyline provides a safe home environment in Downtown Victoria. Taking a person-centered, trauma-informed approach, staff are expected to recognize the effects of trauma and help youth cope with the effects. The goal in the provision of services is to avoid re-traumatizing and facilitate personal growth. The staff accomplish this via knowledge of the trauma-informed approach, assessment, and relationship-building, responding to disclosures, focusing on youth's strengths, and having cultural awareness. Experience and understanding of the interaction of trauma and substance use with youth an asset.

**In Your Role You Will**
- Monitors residents through the night and attends to any medical and behavioural needs that arise during the night.
- Follows through on direction regarding specific residents left by the day staff.
- Notifies staff of any major problems or emergencies; responds to emergencies according to

established policies and procedures.
- Supports residents with their morning and evening routines at the beginning and end of shift.
- Ensures residents follow house rules; monitors curfew regulations and reports to appropriate

authorities as required.
- Administers medications to residents according to established policy and procedure.
- Ensures logbooks and other documentation such as charts and incident reports are complete.
- Performs light housekeeping duties such as vacuuming, dusting, emptying garbage, cleaning and laundry; performs minor building maintenance such as changing light bulbs; reports maintenance needs to the program manager.
- Complies with policies, procedures and values of the agency, and uses best practices when supporting residents.
- Utilizes practices that promote service recipient health, welfare, safety and security; secures the building by arming alarms and locking doors and windows.
- Prepares and assists residents in breakfast preparation.
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

**The Position**

The Awake Residential Night Worker (ARNW) for this licensed, accredited agency attends to the health, well-being, safety and security of residents and the program site at night, and provides general, non-specific services to clients as required. This position will be alone during the overnight hours and must feel comfortable working alone, with support from fellow team members and the On-Call Manager, as needed. Maintains a comfortable and clean living environment. These positions require union membership with BCGEU.

Scheduling
Three (3) permanent part-time positions, with weekly schedules of:

- Schedule 1, 24hrs per week = Wednesday through Friday, 2300-0700
- Schedule 2, 16hrs per week = Saturday and Sunday, 2300-0700
- Schedule 3, 16hrs per week = Monday and Tuesday, 2300-0700

Potential opportunity to combine the 24hrs schedule with one of the 16hrs schedule, to make up one permanent, full-time position. This is open to discussion with the Hiring Manager at time of interview.

**Mandatory Pre-Employment Screenings and Checks**

**Prior to confirmation of employment, all applicants must provide a copy of a current Criminal Record Check and/or Government Screening Letter. These checks vary depending on province and sector and will be communicated by the Program Hiring Team.**
- Grade 12 education PLUS certificate, OR minimum of 6 months equivalent experience in related human/social service field
- Other combination of education and experience may be considered
- Current WCB Occupational First Aid, Level 1 (or ability to obtain within the probation period)
- Experience with behaviour management, basic sign language and/or alternative communications strategies training

Other Requirements:

- Clear physician’s note confirming suitability, including a negative tuberculosis screening test
- Experience working with complex health (including personal hygiene and seizures) is preferred

**Successful applicants will be required to participate in MCFD screening prior to confirmed employment with Taproot Community Support Services.**

Applicants will be required to provide three (3) professional references that Taproot Community Support Services will be able to contact in a timely manner at time of interview.
