**Position Title**: Red Meat Commodity Trader
**Department**: Category Management
**Role Position Reports to**: VP Specialty Companies
**Position Summary**:
As a Red Meat Commodity Trader, you will be responsible for buying, selling, and managing risk across various red meat products, including beef, pork, and lamb. You will work closely with both suppliers and customers to navigate a fast-moving market, identify opportunities, and generate strong margins. This role reports directly to the VP Specialty Companies and requires up to 50% domestic travel to build and maintain strong relationships.
**Key Responsibilities**:

- Source, negotiate, and execute purchase and sales contracts for red meat products
- Develop and manage supplier and customer relationships across Canada
- Monitor market trends, pricing, and supply/demand dynamics to make data-driven trading decisions
- Work with operations and logistics teams to ensure timely, accurate product deliveries
- Provide internal and client-facing market insights and reports
- Maintain detailed trade records and pricing documentation
- Travel to supplier and customer locations across Canada (up to 50%) to support business development and relationship-building
- Represent the Company at industry events and trade shows
- Follow the Company’s policies and procedures
- Ensure compliance to Ministry of Transportation rules and regulations
- Complete and keep up to date on all Health & Safety, Food Safety and Quality Assurance training pertinent to the role.
- Responsible for reporting any and all concerns related to the Health & Safety, safe handling and integrity of all items received, stored and distributed by Flanagan Foodservice.
- Adherence to all Health & Safety, Food Safety and WHMIS practices.
- Follow safe and efficient work procedures to meet customer requirements including maintaining a clean and safe environment
- Other duties as assigned

**Required Qualifications**:

- Minimum 3 years of experience in meat commodity trading, sales, or protein procurement (focus on red meat preferred)
- In-depth understanding of the red meat supply chain, pricing structures, and seasonal trends
- Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and communication skills
- Strong analytical mindset with a passion for market dynamics and trading strategy
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel and Trading or ERP platforms
- Highly self-motivated and comfortable working independently in a target-driven environment
- Willingness and ability to travel within Canada up to 50% of the time

**Unique Requirements**:

- Valid G Class driver’s license and use of personal vehicle for work related travel
- Flexible to participate in occasional work activities outside of regular business hours including sales conferences and meetings.
