Grand Erie District School Board represents more than 27,000 students in 58 elementary schools and 14 secondary schools within the City of Brantford and the counties of Brant, Haldimand and Norfolk, as well as students from Six Nations of the Grand River First Nation and Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. With a dedicated staff of more than 2,900, Grand Erie is committed to learning, leading and inspiring. The Education Centre is located in Brantford. The Board is currently seeking a Full-time Operations Supervisor to join our team.

Reporting to the Division Manager of Operations, you will be responsible for front-line supervision of custodial staff working in partnership with principals of elementary and secondary schools to maintain clean, safe and well-operating educational facilities. You will ensure a quality learning environment and support the Board’s educational process within government regulations and codes and Board policies and procedures through supervision of operations. Responsibilities include monitoring and managing employee performance, custodial workloads, supplies and the general level of cleanliness as per approved standards, safety, and the level of repair to buildings and grounds. You will assign work orders and supervise approximately 100 Board employees and numerous service contractors while working in partnership with school principals, school custodial staff and our Facility Services management team.

Your secondary school graduation diploma is supported with a two-year community college diploma in a relevant discipline (verification is required). An equivalent combination of related education such as supervisory education and related technical education and/or qualifications (i.e. Leadership or Facility Management) or progress towards this completion may be considered. Direct related experience with at least five years of this experience being in cleaning and building maintenance is required. Demonstration of increasing responsibility in providing facility services to support the core business staff is required. Certification in the Operation of Small Drinking Water Systems is desirable. You have general knowledge in the areas of electrical, plumbing, heating, ventilation and air condition, carpentry and general maintenance. You have a general knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act. You possess strong written and verbal communication skills, a solid understanding of the importance of excellent customer service and the ability to prioritize multiple needs and exercise judgment accordingly. You must possess and maintain a valid Class G Ontario driver’s license. You must be able to workday or afternoon shifts and be on-call outside of working hours on a rotating basis. This position may involve some weekend work and will require being available as the on-call duty supervisor for approximately 8 weeks per year for after-hours and/or weekend emergencies. You will be responsible to respond to emergencies that occur during your shift relating to permits, security, flood, fire, gas leaks, power loss, equipment failure, etc.

You have a positive, solution-oriented attitude accompanied by excellent verbal and written communication skills. You can discuss and present information effectively to supervisors, principals, maintenance and custodial staff, and contractors, suppliers and government inspectors. Previous experience working in a unionized environment in the public sector is preferred. The ability to work day or afternoon shift as needed is required. You will be required to be on-call outside of working hours on a rotating basis.

- 8 hours per day/40 hours per week, afternoon shift 3:30 p.m. to 12:30 p.m. day shift 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. July and August**Rate of Pay**
- $78,249 to $88,919, pending review
