The Program This program encourages persons with developmental disabilities and mental health challenges to further develop their strengths, learn new life skills, overcome barriers and become?involved?in their community. In Your Role You Will - Assist child 1:1 in his family home or community settings - Drive child to/from preschool (Mon-Thurs) with 2.5hr unpaid break between (11:30am-2:00pm) while he attends school - Implement person-centered plans designed to support to and achieve personal goals (including personal home living skills) - Instruct, guide, assist and model socially appropriate skills and behaviours. - Assist with OT, PT and SLP Therapy goals - Be aware of the individual’s physical, social and recreational environments, minimizing risks and maximizing participation/inclusion. - Administer medical administration or first aid, as/if required. - Communicate issues/concerns to parent at end of shift. - Ensure comprehensive and accurate recording and reporting of information (e.g. daily logs, incidents reports) The Position The Disability Support Worker supports a "very happy and loving" preschool-aged child who has a very rare metabolic condition that has led to significant developmental delays and seizures (seizures currently controlled by medication). As he is non-verbal, he utilizes a LAMP device and American Sign Language (ASL) for communication. He has a great relationship with his support workers and medical team. Must be available to work flexible hours. Weekends off. Additional days off consistent with Parkland School Division calendar - no school, no work Criminal Record Check/Ministry Check Statement ** Prior to confirmation of employment all applicants must provide a current (dated within 6 months of hiring date) Criminal Record Check and Ministry Check.
