**Vancouver Aboriginal Violence Prevention Program (VAVPP) Policy Analyst**
The Vancouver Aboriginal Friendship Centre Society (VAFCS) is a non-profit charitable organization serving the Urban Aboriginal community with a mandate to provide programs and services that will contribute to the cultural, educational, social, economic, and recreational development of Urban Aboriginal people. The Society manages twenty-three programs and services through three locations in Vancouver. The Friendship Centre at 1607 East Hastings is a community-led organization creating meaningful change for the Urban Aboriginal Population that we serve. VAFCS is currently seeking an individual connected with Indigenous community, highly organized, and self-motivated to work with us
**Program Summary**
This 29-month project is aimed at building capacity within the organization, most activities involve creating and providing training sessions, ensuring equity and inclusion within the organization.
This project is also designed to understand the challenges and barriers faced by social service workers who provide services/support to survivors of gender-based violence, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, and identifying policy pathways. This research project is implemented through a partnership between the Vancouver Aboriginal Friendship Centre Society and the Pacific Institute on Pathogens, Pandemics and Society. This position will be based at the Vancouver Aboriginal Friendship Centre, and will involve working closely with other project team members, community research partners, and non-profit organizations in Metro Vancouver.
This project will bring together Indigenous people with lived experience to document the
challenges experienced due to the pandemic, identify gaps in services within the
Vancouver Metro area, and create culturally informed policy procedures for internal staff
and external stakeholders. Upwards of 60 staff members will receive training on bias-based inequities and the policy procedures for equitable Indigenous assistance will be
shared with community health organizations and other partner stakeholders.
**Responsibilities**:
- Introduce the project to the Vancouver Aboriginal Friendship Centre Community members
- Identify and facilitate training and education for staff
- Reviewing policies and procedures, identifying areas of enhancement, developing, implementing, monitoring, and then amending the inclusive policies
- Track and report on budget expenditures in relation to workplan activities
Prepare VAFCS staff through training and practice to inform the new development of organizational policies, procedures, and services, through a proactive lens. Engage stakeholders and partners to ensure violence prevention activities are included in future efforts regarding the Vancouver Urban Aboriginal Population.
- Intake clients and utilize partnerships and programs. Further identify opportunities to reduce issues and increase awareness
- Increasing awareness to the Provincial BCAAFC including reporting to 23 Friendship Centres and BCAAFC
- Working with Agencies frontline workers to improve access to services
- Building on existing Partnerships and working with organizations and agencies to improve and change policies and procedures
**Experience**
- Experience in organizational management and community consultations
- Experience working with and/or leading teams, including training and orientation of procedures and operations
- Experience presenting and reporting to Executive Management Teams
- Broad and extensive knowledge/skills in administrative functions including Microsoft Office
- Understanding of social, economic, and political issues affecting Aboriginal communities
- Firsthand knowledge of Aboriginal philosophies and values of varied cultures and traditions
- Firsthand Knowledge of the lived, shared Aboriginal experience and how culture influences the development of individuals and communities
- Demonstrated goal setting, critical thinking, problem solving and organizational skills
- Ability to comply with policies and procedures regarding privacy, confidentiality, record-keeping, and reporting
**Qualifications**
- University degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a related field or equivalent experience
- Strong organizational skills, excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to demonstrate resilience, flexibility, a non-judgmental approach, maintain confidentiality, and maintain a professional attitude
- Work independently, cooperatively, and in consultation with the VAFCS management team in all matters associated with the Centre
- Administration experience: 3-4 years (required)
- Policy experience: 2-3 Years
- Governance experience: 1-2 Years

- Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Person Sector Check
- Compliance with VAFCS COVID-19 Vaccination Policy
- A valid Driver’s License
Employment Type: Full Time for 28 months
Hours Per Week: 37.
