**The Role**
- **Key Responsibilities**_
- **Client Consultation**:Discuss grooming preferences, special needs, and any health concerns with dog owners. Provide feedback on the dog's grooming experience and offer advice on at-home care.
- **Dog Preparation**: Prepare dogs for grooming appointments, including bathing, drying, nail trimming, paw pad trimming, sanitary trimming, and ear cleaning.
- **Hair Trimming, Clipping, and Styling**: Proper and safe use of clippers, scissors, and other tools to style dogs to their owner’s preference. This includes basic salon clips to breed standard clips.
- **Cleaning and Sanitation**: Maintain a clean and sanitary work environment by sweeping and mopping floors, disinfecting tubs and tables, washing and folding towels, and disinfecting grooming tools. Maintaining a clean work environment is critical for both pet and human health and safety. Attention to detail is vital.
- **Social Media**: Photograph dogs for social media purposes.
- **Qualifications**_
- Pet Grooming Certificate
- Previous work experience as a dog groomer
- Strong understanding of breed-specific grooming techniques
- Post-secondary education in animal science, vet assistant, or a related field
- Pet First-Aid certification
- Continued education seminars/certifications in dog grooming
- **Skills**_
