The Department of Psychiatry is a diverse city-wide clinical academic department at the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry. The department encompasses the University, London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC), St. Joseph's Health Care, London (SJHC), London and St. Thomas, and the Child and Parent Resources Institute (CPRI).

The vision for the Department of Psychiatry is to be the acknowledged Centre of Excellence for psychiatric care and discovery in South Western Ontario with a mission to translate clinical research into treatment and provide regional consultation within interdisciplinary models of care. The Department of Psychiatry is comprised of approximately 80 Clinical Academics, 7 Basic Research Scientists, 36 trainees and 12 administrative staff including the Manager, Administration & Finance.

**Education**:
- Master’s degree in relevant field and a minimum of two years of significant research experience; or a PhD Master's in a relevant discipline with 3 years working in a related academic research environment; OR PhD and 1 year of related experience

**Experience**:
- 3 years' working experience in a related academic research environment

Essential Qualifications:

- Excellent interpersonal, facilitation, organizational and planning skills;
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, including an ability to effectively communicate general and scientific information both verbally and in writing at all levels;
- Ability to work independently and make decisions based on good judgement;
- Proven ability to take initiative and demonstrate leadership capabilities;
- Ability to execute on ambiguous tasks and work in an adaptable and flexible manner;
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities;
- Exemplifies tact and professionalism in the workplace;
- Strong ability to multi-task;
- Demonstrated ability to work in teams, including physician and non-physician staff, students and residents;
- Ability to meet deadlines and responsibilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Prior experience within an academic health care setting;
- Experience working in an academic/research environment;
- Familiarity with Western University and Lawson Health Research Institute policies and procedures;
- Familiarity with local, national, international and provincial research funding agencies/ organizations;
- Experience with soliciting funds and contributions from corporations, foundations and individuals.

Specific activities will include:

- Assisting faculty members with the development of faculty-led research study proposals including funding proposals
- Facilitating the research ethics approval process for faculty-led studies
- Coaching faculty members on a one-to-one and/or group basis on their identified research skills/knowledge learning goals;
- Liaising with current and potential internal and external collaborators to strengthen existing and/or catalyze new research teams for faculty members.
