The Transport Economist will provide technical expertise for economic and financial studies, market analysis, transport planning and policy development for rail, road and marine transport infrastructure and services, including transshipment and intermodality, for both freight and mining resources and passengers.

**Role and responsibilities**

The Transport Economist will provide technical expertise for economic and financial studies, market analysis, transport planning and policy development for rail, road and marine transport infrastructure and services, including transshipment and intermodality, for both freight and mining resources and passengers.

**Role and responsibilities**:

- Analyze market conditions and forecast future traffic.
- Evaluate the economic and financial aspects of new transportation services, improvements to existing services, or certain fare or operational changes.
- Evaluate the investments required to carry out transportation projects and the financing means to ensure their realization.
- Conduct cost benefit analyses and make recommendations on public funding of projects.
- Evaluate the economic impacts of projects.
- Evaluate transportation programs and policies.
- Identify and participate in the identification of business opportunities for the promotion and services of the Asset Management and Financial Analysis team.

**Qualifications**

**Education**: University degree in economics or finance.

**Years of experience**: Ten years of relevant experience in transport economics.

**Technical competencies**:

- Strong experience in transportation project market research and traffic forecasting.
- An understanding of rail transportation.
- Experience in multi-modal transportation is an asset.
- Excellent writing skills.
- Proficiency with advanced Excel functions

**Personal & soft skills**:

- An open mind and an ability to continually develop expertise.
- Fluency in spoken, read and written French.
- Fluency in spoken, read and written English is an asset.
- Availability for travel in Quebec, Canada and abroad on occasion.
