The Climate Change Secretariat (CCS) plays an instrumental leadership role in ensuring that New Brunswick reduces its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and increases our resiliency and response to the challenges and opportunities presented by climate change. The CCS also focuses on initiatives related to education, awareness, and capacity-building and the CCS is responsible for the Climate Change Act and associated regulations. It is also responsible for the development of New Brunswick's Climate Change Action Plans and coordinates its implementation, tracking and reporting. The Secretariat works with government departments and agencies to ensure that actions on climate change are integrated with governmental policies, programs, and day-to-day decisions. The CCS also engages local governments and non-government partners and various stakeholders to increase knowledge and capacity while encouraging lower carbon and resilient investments and practices.
Department of Environment and Local Government provides integrated stewardship through planning and management of land use, zoning development and waste management issues. It ensures effective enforcement of, and compliance with, environmental legislation and regulations and provides effective consultation and liaison with municipal governments and Local Service Districts (LSD) on governance issues.
**What you will do?**
As a member of the Climate Change Secretariat and reporting to the Adaptation Section Director, you will, among other things be responsible for:
- Leading the development of a Provincial Climate Change Risk Assessment (PRA) in response to the commitment outlined in Action 23 of New Brunswick's Climate Change Action Plan.
- Assisting in developing the scope of the PRA,
- Consulting a jurisdictional scan of other Provincial Risk Assessments and keeping detailed consultation records
- Preparing and issuing a Request for Proposal, select the Consultant, produce a detailed project work plan, guide the Consultant throughout the project to ensure deliverables and timelines are met,
- Coordinating stakeholder engagement,
- Ensuring the PRA is completed within budget, and ensure the final report reflects government priorities.
- Coordinating public engagement, and stakeholders within key sectors such as municipalities, infrastructure, public safety, health, natural resources, agriculture, aquaculture, environment, industry, and business, as well as within populations, on private property, Crown Lands, and within various geographic regions, to identify risks.
- And as necessary, performing administrative tasks that support the completion of the PRA, including but not limited to, creating tailored presentations for the various sectors being consulted, track and report on project progress, and prepare materials for the public release of the Provincial Climate Change Risk Assessment.

- Standard hours of work: Monday - Friday, 8:15-4:30 (office schedule)

**Asset Qualifications**
- Experience with climate change adaptation, risk assessments and** **climate projections.
Written and spoken competence in English is required. Please state your language capability.
