**About the Role**

The EHS Specialist is responsible for supporting and enhancing the health, safety, and environmental programs at our Calgary manufacturing facility, while also aligning with practices across our U.S. operations. This role assists in implementing safety initiatives, ensuring compliance with federal, provincial, and local regulatory standards (e.g., CSA, Alberta OHS, Environment and Climate Change Canada), and fostering a culture of workplace safety.

**Principal Duties and Responsibilities**
- Assist in the implementation and maintenance of health and safety programs aligned with company policies and Canadian regulatory standards (CSA, Alberta OHS, Environment Canada, provincial regulators, etc.); knowledge of U.S. standards (OSHA, EPA, DOT, TCEQ, FMCSA) is an asset.
- Support the development and rollout of workplace safety programs, procedures, and communications.
- Participate in safety committee meetings and support employee engagement in EHS initiatives.
- Help ensure compliance with applicable Canadian environmental, health, and safety laws; assist with consistency across U.S. operations.
- Conduct workplace safety audits and inspections to identify hazards and monitor compliance.
- Assist in risk assessments and follow up on corrective actions to reduce safety and environmental risks.
- Support the development and delivery of EHS training sessions, including new hire onboarding and annual refresher courses.
- Track and maintain accurate training records and monitor compliance with safety regulations.
- Help create safety awareness materials and lead toolbox talks to promote safe practices.
- Assist in the reporting and investigation of workplace incidents, near misses, and injuries.
- Support documentation of findings, root cause analysis, and implementation of corrective actions.
- Ensure timely and accurate regulatory reporting per Canadian requirements; support U.S. reporting when needed.
- Monitor key safety performance indicators and support continuous improvement initiatives.
- Help implement and promote safety recognition programs to reinforce positive safety behaviors.
- Collaborate with cross-border EHS teams to maintain alignment of practices and compliance.
- Perform and coordinate minor facility maintenance or repairs as needed, ensuring issues are addressed promptly and safely; escalate larger projects to management and support contractor oversight when required.
- Coordinate and oversee contractor visits for facility maintenance, ensuring compliance with company safety protocols and regulatory standards.
- Support facility-related safety systems (e.g., fire suppression, ventilation, emergency equipment) by scheduling inspections and maintenance.

**Qualifications**

Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, or a related field required.
- A Certified Safety Professional (CSP) designation or relevant health, safety, or environmental certification is a plus.
- A combination of related education and 5+ years of relevant safety experience may substitute for formal degree requirements.

Experience
- 3-5 years of experience in environmental, health, and safety roles, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Familiarity with Canadian frameworks (CSA, Alberta OHS, ECCC, provincial regulators) required; knowledge of U.S. frameworks (OSHA, EPA, DOT, FMCSA, and TCEQ) considered an asset.
- Prior experience conducting audits, risk assessments, safety training, and working with regulatory agencies is preferred.

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations
- Valid Driver’s License with acceptable Motor Vehicle Record required.
- First Aid/CPR, WHMIS, and TDG certifications preferred.

**Skills and Abilities / Core Proficiencies**

- Strong working knowledge of Canadian EHS regulations; familiarity with U.S. regulatory requirements considered an asset.
