Parks and Roads Student Labourer

Infrastructure Services

**Position Summary**:
Reporting to the Public Works Supervisors, the Parks and Roads Student Labourer is responsible for performing general maintenance duties within various parks and recreational areas, municipal properties, and rights-of-way to ensure safe, attractive, orderly, and well-maintained municipal assets for residents, visitors and tourists.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Collecting litter and debris in sports fields, parks and municipal boulevards.
- Opening, closing, cleaning, and sanitizing of park washroom facilities.
- Regular grooming of baseball diamonds and lining of soccer fields.
- General turf maintenance of sports fields, which includes cutting, edging, top dressing, over-seeding, repairing damaged sections, etc.
- Daily watering of hanging baskets, planters, and gardens.
- Maintenance of trails, parks, playgrounds, and municipal-owned facilities, including weeding, trimming, garden maintenance and painting.
- Assist Roads staff with maintenance activities of various municipal properties, infrastructure and within the road right-of-way including but not limited to patching, painting, litter and debris collection, watering trees, etc.
- Comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, applicable regulations, and the Municipality of Leamington’s Health and Safety Program.
- Other duties as assigned.

**Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills**:

- Must be a full-time student enrolled in a secondary or post-secondary school and returning to secondary or post-secondary school after the end of the summer employment term.
- Heavy lifting may be required at times.
- Must possess a valid G2 Ontario Drivers License. Experience driving heavy-duty full-size pickups and large trucks up to 550 series is considered an asset.
- Knowledge of turf and sports field maintenance and experience are considered assets.
- Experience operating utility tractors, riding lawnmowers, weed eaters, and lawn edgers is considered an asset.
- Must obtain a satisfactory police clearance upon hire.

**Hours of Work and Working Conditions**:
40 hours per week (Sunday-Saturday). Daytime, evening, and holiday hours are required.

**Employee Group**:
Student, Non-union.

**Wage Rate**:
$18.93 per hour (2025 Rates)
